BassnChris Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Yesterday out on the lake when I left the ramp I noticed the tach indicated 6k...........the motor was NOT revving that high. I backed off to idle and still was high......4500k.........tapped the tach and it dropped down to normal and all was fine. Kept doing the same thing but not not everytime I fired it up to run to the next spot. I was thinking loose connection......but I do not know much about this stuff. Any ideas? Thanks Quote
BassnChris Posted June 30, 2013 Author Posted June 30, 2013 The tach sits around 2k with ignition off......then drops to 0 when ignition is turned on.......then after starting it is high and fluctuates. Quote
BassnChris Posted June 30, 2013 Author Posted June 30, 2013 Changed the tach wire from the current coil/resistor to the other coil/resister.....no change. connections are not hot, brownish or burned looking. So i tried a tip I read somewhere........there is a dial on the back where you can select the number of cylinders you have. I turned this all the way to the right and then all the way to the left......then back to the original place. Seems to have resolved the issue.......taking it out tomorrow......we will see I guess. james 14 Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 Both things I was going to suggest. Mine had a similar problem and the dial on the back wasn't set correctly. In the process I found out that on engines with voltage regulators instead of alternators to charge the battery the tach got it's signal from the voltage regulator. You can move the wire from the one to the other and solve the problem in many cases. Quote
