Berkley Fireline

I'm usually a Trilene XL or XT guy. I'm considering putting some Fireline on one of my spinning reels. How does the Fireline hold up? My main concern is I want something that is not going to detract from easy casting.

I've had spools of Fireline last for years on spinning gear.  Specifically 14 lb Fireline ( which has a diameter of 6 lb test according to Berkley) in either the regular smoke color or the crystal color.

A great line in my opinion. Have been using Fireline since it was first offered and have continued to use it throughout the years. I prefer it over the normal braids because it flows through the guides better. No "music" when you retrieve it either. Easy casting, super strong and lasts a long time. The past 3 years - and this season - I've been using the "Crystal" version, just because it's easier for my eyes to see. Never have had a negative issue. I use the 4#, 6#, 10# and 14# sizes.

I have used most of the superlines out there and like Fireline the best. On spinning gear I would use 4# - 14#, it's extremely strong, and slices through weeds. I have some on reels that is 6 years old. When one end gets worn out, you just reverse it on the spool. I alsways use some backing with it to prevent it from slipping on the spool. You will be amazed at the sensitivity you are about to gain, you can also add a flouro leader to it when conditions dictate.

I used the 14# Fireline (talking about the original fused line) on spinning gear for a few years and it held up well. However, I felt it didn't flow off the reel smoothly and cast less distance. For me, 15# round braid casts better, but the Fireline was the equal of braid in the other properties.

I have tried the original fused many times and just did not care for it. I would take power pro braid over it hands down. If you have never seen power pro, go take a look... walmart carries it. It is very round, very smooth, and very sensitive. Only downside I have found is that it loses its color quick, which does not make any difference to me. I sharpie the last foot of the line usually.

It apparently does make a difference if you sharpie it at the end.
