rizzo777 Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 This question is probably asked a lot but my shimano sedona spinner reel broke and its only about 3 yrs old. The bail keeps on coming apart when I cast. Ive been reading that baitcasters are really nice if you dont cheap out. I usually fish with plastic lizards or top water frogs and will spend up to 120$. Any recommendations on what reel to buy for my fishing style? Quote
LApanic Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Bass Pro Shops Pro Qualifier, you wont be disappointed! Have 2 of them. Go with the 7:1:1, I think a faster retrieve is better IN MOST situations http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-Pro-Qualifier-Baitcast-Reels/product/102287/?cmCat=CROSSSELL_THUMBNAIL Quote
Virtuoso Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Used Curado or new Citica. For $80 the BPS PQ is a good deal as well. Stick with centrifugal breaking. Quote
thehooligan Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Id look for a curado g series with that budget. Quote
smr913 Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Going to agree with the others on a used Curado. Either a 200G6 or G7 will suit your needs just fine. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted June 30, 2013 Super User Posted June 30, 2013 BPS PQ or a Citica will both suit your needs and price range. I own both and really like them. My other question would be you mention a sedona and then want a baitcaster. Do you have a rod for your new reel or are you talking 120 for a new combo? That will change up things as far as what is available in that price range. Quote
rizzo777 Posted June 30, 2013 Author Posted June 30, 2013 Well good you mentioned that I dont have a rod for baitcaster I thought I did in the garage. Might have to go spinning again dont know if I can swing the extra for a rod since I wouldnt want a cheap 1. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted June 30, 2013 Super User Posted June 30, 2013 you could get a BPS PQ and one of the plethora of good $100 rods out there and not be out a ton more than your budget. I'll save you the recommendation of $100 rods though as there are already a ton of posts on here for that so just do a search and you wil lfind more than enough info. fishking247 Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 stick with spinning for what you're doing. go buy a shimano symetre 2500 or 3000. if you can spend about $50 go for a stradic Quote
rizzo777 Posted June 30, 2013 Author Posted June 30, 2013 Yea thinking of sticking with a spinning real. Im reading up on the stradic, is spending that much on a spin reel worth it? Where do you guys find the best deals? Quote
EvanT123 Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 You can find stradics brand new on ebay from reputable sellers from 135-145 Quote
rizzo777 Posted July 1, 2013 Author Posted July 1, 2013 Im leaning towards the stradic ci4 2500 and after some research its between that or the FJ. Also, I am reading icast will be soon but never experienced an icast event. How much does that drop prices for older models,if any? Quote
rizzo777 Posted July 1, 2013 Author Posted July 1, 2013 Now I am eyeing a quantum exo PTI..anyone own one? Quote
rizzo777 Posted July 1, 2013 Author Posted July 1, 2013 Ok, I ordered the Quantum EXO PTI 6.9oz reel on rollback from walmart.com for $150... Couldn't find it cheaper than 200, so 15$ than the FJ on ebay...Hope i made the right choice Quote
rizzo777 Posted July 1, 2013 Author Posted July 1, 2013 Just noticed the walmart site description was the 25 series the next description the model # is ex30pti..dont know what im going to get now! I wont mind the 30 if its not that much bigger than a 25 Quote
