Das, there are two schools of thought on using a leader with braid.

First one says that you are adding a weak point in your line with the leader to braid knot. In addition, unless you use a snap you will be cutting off the leader to retie other baits which shortens your leader and you have to stop and add a new leader after a few changes.

The second says to tie your braid directly to your bait to avoid the pitfalls of having a leader.

There is a third which says don't fish with a leader - go with the strongest line test your rod and reel can handle and take your chances but you asked about having a leader with a jig.

Yes, you an have a leader with a jig and you can fish a jig with braid or fluorocarbon line.

Depends on the situation, structure, grass, pads, docks, piers, barnacles, rocks and the like.

Your job is to use all three variations and try to find the one that suits your type of fishing best under specific circumstances.

Good luck. Be sure to let us know what you find out.

I generally don't use a leader with braid. when the line starts to fade i use a black sharpie and color the line about 4' up from the bait (it's a confidence thing i guess). I have fished straight braid, braid with sharpie, and braid with leader and have not found a difference. my biggest bass was taken on straight faded green 30lb power pro
