Had a big bass on with chatter bait that possible could have been my PB, but I didn't know my drag is not working right til I hooked him. Even turned all the way I can still pull line out with my hand. Basically the fish got off because I couldn't keep the pressure on. What should I look at on reel to fix it? or is it a goner?

need a lot more info,,,,what reel,,,,,what line and how is it fastened,,,,,has the reel ever been taken apart or serviced,,,,,how old is the reel,,,,,that is a start then someone can probably start to have an idea what other questions would need to be asked to figure it out,,,,,or if it is a good quality reel, send it to a service tech and have it checked out.

It's a accurist Quantum, probably about 5 years old. Using 17lb mono. Service once. i did recently take off cover to look it to possible clean it my self. Can't remember if I oiled it or not. I read some where else someone mentioned checking drag washers for oil, not sure how to do that.

Send to DVT for a cleaning and Carbontex upgrade.  Problem solved!  :teeth:

You may not have put the drag stack back properly or may have oiled or otherwise contaminated the washers. Unless you don't fish very much one service in 5 years is likely inadequate. If you'd like it checked out feel free to send it in.

X2.

You need the reel serviced by a professional.

It is worth the cost.

Send it to a service tech,,,,my guess would be the drag stack is not installed correctly and I would have to question if it isn't time to upgrade to a better reel. I am sure the more money you put in this reel the more you will loose on it when you do want to upgrade. I personally would spend the 25 to 40 bucks to help fund a new reel. That is the least I spend if I were going to keep it, because it would get a new carbon drag if I were going to bother servicing it. Then you would have to think about if you spent that much, wouldn't it make sense to upgrade the bearings,,,,,,,??????? Make it easy, buy a Lew's tournament around 95.00 to $100.00 or go first class and get the Tournament Pro around $125.00 and you are stylin, and no bass is going to be lost for lack of enough drag and you'll have reel that defines smoooooottthhhhh!! :thumbsup1:

You can find new ones on ebay for $65 plus free shipping.  If you really like this reel, then a new one might be the way to go.  A cleaning and Carbontex drag isn't all that expensive from DVT, but you can't forget to add in the price of shipping both ways.  Should still be less than a new reel, but would it be worth it?  Only you can answer that.  Also Mike gives a 10% discount to bassresource members.  Check with him about prices before running out and buying a new reel.  Of course some of us don't need an excuse to buy another reel.  :teeth:

How much total you think.

I went ahead and cleaned reel. Drag washer did have particles on it. It seemed like there was some kind of thin cardboard like washer under plastic washer that was under drag washer but could be my eyes playing tricks on me. Works a little better but can still pull line out.

Who makes tournament pro?

LEW'S!!   The Tournament is it's little sibling that has gained approval with it's quality for most all that have tried it!! Can't go wrong with any of their reels for the cost and quality you get.  :ok-wink:

It would be much cheaper to send the reel in to get serviced. This can be done easily for less than $30. Also, if you plan on getting another reel, there are many more reels to look at then just the Lews. Don't limit yourself to one persons opinion.
