Micro Or Standard Guides?

I'm looking to get another rod. I want to use it for an all around rod, but mainly for Texas rigs, and some carolina rigging maybe. I was planning on getting either a 7' or a 7'3 medium heavy veritas. Would y'all recommend the micro or regular guides.

I have a 7' MH pro qualifier rod and 7' MH veritas micro guide rod. The biggest difference I notice is the veritas FEELS lighter because its less tip heavy and it also seems easier to be more accurate for pitching.

Other than that if you're just throwing cranks or spinnerbaits or anything that you're casting far I prefer regular guides.

Micro guides. Better sensitivity and better casting. It is aggravating though running line through those tiny things.

_{If you plan on using braid with a leader micros are not the best idea as the knot barely fits through the guides and can actually break them or cause bad backlash's. Also cottonwood fiber is a real pain with the micros. that being said I have 2 veritas, 1 with and 1 without micros and I like the micros way more. You have a lot more sensitivity with the micros I think}

I prefer standard guides. Have not seen or felt any advantage by using micro guides.

From my experience with veritas micros, I would go with standard. Again this is veritas specific. I have had two micros have defective guides. The guides are crooked and I think a blind monkey applies the epoxy around the guides. Abu has been awesome regarding warranty but I'm sick of being without a rod for the little bit of weight reduction. Maybe they will fix there qc issue.

Micros set up properly on a casting rod offer some real advantages over standard guides. They aren't for every situation though. The vast majority of my rods have micro guides but they are all customs. I don't fish braid with leaders and I don't fish in freezing, icy weather. If you buy a production rod, micros or not, look the rod and the guides over very carefully. Make sure the guides line up and don't have any cracked or missing inserts.

Ok. I'm to scared to fish braid on a casting reel. I just don't want to get a real bad backlash and loose $20 in line. I heard a lot about micro guides being screwed up on rods and that's why I came here. Sure am glad I did. Looks like micros are the way to go.

^^^ braid is better on a casting reel. Actually helps with backlashes from what I've been told. Also you don't have to worry about kinking your line when pulling them out.

X2. One time cotton wood caused me a massive backlash on a fresh spool of braid. It took me almost an hour to back and pick it out but the line was all good. I prefer standard guides for many of the reasons listed about.

Get the micros if you are not using leaders. The micros are lighter and the lighter the better IMHO. That is their biggest advantage. I don't buy into the whole casting distance claims, and sensitivity wise the difference is negligible IMHO.

I don't know about better DISTANCE but I am way more accurate with micro's. I don't know about this whole AG micros being garbage either.... only micro's I have are a Shimano Cumara and a Falcon Bucoo.... I prefer to use those two rods over anything else I have

"micro" is used to refer to a range of guide sizes. A #4 guide will easily pass an Albright knot joining braid and a leader. If you had the ability to build the exact same blank with 'micros" and standard guides to compare, you'd see the difference a lighter guide train makes in sensitivity and balance.

I have both and I favor neither over the other lol

 

my two rods with micros were bought because of the blank...the micros didn't matter to me

one is a LTB 7'1 MH Jig/Spinnerbait and the other is a Lews Crankbait rod
