Oh my.  It sounds like Powell is going to step into the high end rod arena.  I'm looking forward to a review.  ICAST can't come soon enough.

Personally, I always thought they were in the "high-end" arena. There's more to a rod's classification than price.

Still, this rod is a touch out of my price range.

I'm a big Powell fan and i'm glad they are coming out with a high end rod but I wish they would have done something else with the handle. The grip and fighting butt are the same as all their other rods and I hate the aluminum piece. You can buy similar pieces at rod building suppliers and they seem cheesy to me. I do like the reel seat, guides and warranty though.

I agree, the handle is a bit gaudy looking, but the rest looks awesome. And if its better than the Endruance, I can't even imagine.

The aluminum on the rod seems kind of gimmicky. (And will suck when fishing in the cold weather up north) Unless they use the metal down below to better balance the rods.

Otherwise, all of the other components on the rod does spark some interest!

I meant no disprespect to Powell rods.  I have six of them myself and have encouraged others to try them out on this forum since 2006.  For rods less than $200 or so,  I think Powells are right there with the best of them.  However, I also have a few G.Loomis GLXs.  There is a difference between Powells and a GLX/NRX level rod, though once you reach a certain price the improvements become less and less.  I'm thinking Powell is trying to create a rod that competes with that class of rod and if it is anything like their previous rods, I'm sure it will.

I think you and ec1 may be onto something here.  The main complaint I have heard from others about Powell rods over 7 feet long is that they are somewhat tip-heavy.
