ChasingBass Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Sometimes before I go fishing, I check the "fishing forecast" for my area, but these predictions have never really helped much. I always just have the most luck fishing early mornings and in the evening. do these forecasts depend on weather and what kind of water you are trying to fish? Quote
aqualkinbush Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 I look at them but I don't put much faith in them. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted June 27, 2013 Super User Posted June 27, 2013 I was fishing by the mauori charts on the best time to fish. You need to adjust it to your time zone. I followed it for a few years looking to break the state record here. My PB was 10lbs so far caught at 5am when the charts said "good early". It's no fluke every time it predicts good fishing it was correct. The days it didn't predict good fishing it was slow. These charts were in outdoor life for many years it's no longer in it so I don't buy it anymore. I do miss it. Now I try to focus more on my fishing during the moon phases. Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted June 27, 2013 Super User Posted June 27, 2013 I have one of those fishing watches. Have been using it for two years now. You have to set it up for your region. I have found, ( from my experience ), when it says the fishing will be good, it is usually rotten. When it has no fish showing, I typically have my best days. Hootie Quote

Dyerbassman Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 I don't have the luxury of fishing around a "forecast". If I have the time, I'm going. 1 Quote
Super User bigbill Posted June 27, 2013 Super User Posted June 27, 2013 I don't let anything stop me I go any way. I still wet my line and drown my lures. I do have more confidence during the moon phases or when a weather front is on the way. Quote
that possum Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 I put as much stock in those fishing calendars as I do fortune cookies, the horoscope and the topless palm reader gal at the carnival. I try to rely on the weather, time of year, and my familiarity with the body of water I'm fishing. Luck sometimes comes into play too! 1 Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted June 28, 2013 Super User Posted June 28, 2013 I pay no attention to a fishing forecast as I'm going everyday anyway. I pay very close attention to the day's weather forecast and tides. The information gives me an idea of what type of fish I want target and the location I'm traveling to, plus my choice in clothing. 1 Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted June 28, 2013 Super User Posted June 28, 2013 If you don't go fishing because some/any fishing forecast says the fishing will be poor, the fishing will be poor. You won't even get a nibble. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted June 28, 2013 Super User Posted June 28, 2013 I have never looked at it. Quote
Super User Sam Posted June 28, 2013 Super User Posted June 28, 2013 These calendars are usually based on moon phases. As we all know, there are other factors that have to be added into the formula. I agree with Possum and Snookalot - read them for fun but don't put that much faith in them. Just go out based on the conditions in your area and have fun. 1 Quote
