BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted June 26, 2013 BassResource.com Administrator Posted June 26, 2013 Just wanted to answer this perennial question. This simple answer is no. You have to have a pass and it is only sold to companies, buyers, and press. This is an industry-only event. Everyone is there for business purposes. Retail sales are not allowed. Window shoppers, gawkers, and anyone considered "general public" will get thrown out - seriously. They don't kid around there. ICAST Show Rules1. ICAST is open only to qualified members of the trade. All attendees must be badged for the duration of the show.2. Exhibitors and attendees who are in violation of any portion of ASA’s rules and regulations will be asked to leave immediately and will forfeit his or her badge. Additional penalties may be applied.3. Exhibitors and attendees must be in compliance with local, state and federal laws and any valid federal or state court order.4. Exhibitors and attendees must refrain from any conduct that would be viewed as detrimental or disruptive to the operation of the show, including, but not limited to: inappropriate dress, lascivious behavior, excessive noise, unauthorized use of another exhibitor’s product or product concepts or any other activity ASA determines to be unacceptable or unethical.5. Orders may only be taken within exhibitors’ booths. Retail sales are prohibited during the show.6. Exhibitors are not permitted to place promotional materials outside their booth except in the Press Room.7. Any attendee who is observed to be soliciting business in the aisles or other public spaces, in another company’s booth, or anyone who is not an ICAST exhibitor who hosts an exhibit or other function outside the ICAST floor and official hotels is in violation of show rules and will be asked to leave.8. Exhibitors may serve alcoholic beverages in their booths during the designated social hour. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited from the show floor at all other times.9. Photography and videography are not permitted on the show floor. Properly credentialed Media-Editorial attendees are excluded.10. Children under 16 years of age are not permitted on the show floor during set-up and dismantle. Proof of age is required. No exceptions. Hope that helps! Glenn Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 26, 2013 Super User Posted June 26, 2013 Sounds harsh. I guess they REALLY don't want us peasants there! 2 1 Quote
powerduster Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 Wow, I did not know that. I just generally assumed it was a large event for the public to have a first look. Maybe one day. Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted June 26, 2013 Super User Posted June 26, 2013 Glenn, should you happen to come down with a serious case of Montezuma's Revenge, I will gladly step in your place and wear your badge with honor. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted June 26, 2013 Super User Posted June 26, 2013 Don't want to seem like a butt, but if we the people aren't allowed why show us the rules Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted June 26, 2013 Super User Posted June 26, 2013 Don't want to seem like a butt, but if we the people aren't allowed why show us the rules I think he was just elaborating on how strict they are with the show. Business is business Quote

tstone Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Sounds similar to an automotive trade show called PRI, always a good time but people not in the industry aren't included. Quote

Super User Sam Posted June 27, 2013 Super User Posted June 27, 2013 Don't want to seem like a butt, but if we the people aren't allowed why show us the rules To let us know how the ICAST staff handles the event. I thought the information was very interesting. These rules have made the event successful all these years and it is always fun to note the new products, videos and print ads for the new products that we just have to buy or else we will never catch another fish of any type for the rest of our lives. Glenn attends this event on our behalf and his reports are outstanding. Would I like to attend the event? Sure. It would be great. But being a peasant I will have to wait for the data to filter out like the rest of us. Quote
JigMe Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 More folks attend = more publicity = more business. I don’t see how restrict access going to help, but that’s just me. 1 Quote

Super User senile1 Posted July 8, 2013 Super User Posted July 8, 2013 More folks attend = more publicity = more business. I don’t see how restrict access going to help, but that’s just me. Cisco just held their Cisco Live event in Orlando and approximately 20,000 people attended and that's for just one company. All kinds of special amenities were provided to those within the industry who had tickets, including renting Universal out for a night so all the rides, etc were free. For that evening Cisco provided all the free drinks and eats one would want, and Journey also performed. Throughout the week there were other free events and food and drink were provided. There is a lot of expense that goes into throwing these events and I assume ICAST is similar in some respects, though I doubt they throw the party that Cisco did. You want to provide free amenities for those in the industry who will sell and service your product. You don't want to provide free amenities for the world at large. Those people in attendance will then go out and sell your product for you. Quote
Super User OkobojiEagle Posted July 8, 2013 Super User Posted July 8, 2013 What days will ICAST be held... or more importantly, when will I start to see reports about the new products. oe Quote

BamaBoy5 Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Sounds to me like its very similar to the SHOT show. Quote
Super User South FLA Posted July 9, 2013 Super User Posted July 9, 2013 Hope you have fun at iCast this year Glenn, Mike and I will not be attending this year, but hope to see you next year in Orlando. Quote
SudburyBasser Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 I wouldn't mind the public being barred from iCast if the media that was invited actually did their jobs and cover the event critically. Instead, we're going to be inundated with 1,000 videos on Youtube, a hundred web sites and WFN which will feature a guy telling us why his company's latest product is the best thing since sliced bread with bacon embedded in it. That's not reporting, that's providing free commercial time. Wait...why isn't there bread with bacon embedded in it? Quote

That's right up there with condiment filled burger and hot dog buns or cheese filled fries.. I do wish it was a public event, my wife on the otherhand... Are there any other shows that are like iCast that are for the public? 1 Quote
