Arv Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 Anyone use red braided line? I'm looking at the phantom red power pro but I usually use moss green. Thanks. Quote
EvanT123 Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 My friend uses it. I don't know if you have a specific question in regards to it. He catches fish just fine. I use high vis yellow and have no trouble catching fish with no leader with moving baits. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted June 26, 2013 Super User Posted June 26, 2013 Anyone use red braided line? I'm looking at the phantom red power pro but I usually use moss green. Thanks. I tried it, and boy what a mess! Red got all over my baitcaster, fingers, etc. Now that was a couple years back, so maybe the formula doesn't bleed as much now. It's PowerPro, so a great braid, just didn't like the bleed. I use yellow PP now. Bleeds a little, but less noticeable. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted June 26, 2013 Super User Posted June 26, 2013 Two of my Black Max 1600 reels came with red PowerPro. No red coming off now, but no idea how much may have come off when new. I put 30# Fireline on a spinning reel. My finger and thumb turned green while spooling it. Not so with green Sufix Performance, white 832 and green Daiwa Samurai braid. The Performance has seen a fair amount of use over the past 4 years. It is almost white, but my reel didn't get dirty from the color coming off. Quote
Sodus Bay Scooter Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 I used the red pp before with no bleeding. No prob catching fish with it either. Quote
5dollarsplash Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 When you spool up, just use a damp paper towel and hold it a foot above your reel. It'll remove a lot of that, you can use a line conditioner if you want too, although I don't see as much benefit with power pro as some other lines. Quote

5dollarsplash Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 Hopefully it helps, I use that method whenever I respool. You'll still end up with a bit of bleeding like Darren said, but it cuts down on it a bunch. As far as red vs. other colors of power pro, I haven't seen much difference. I do like to use the different colors to give me some reference to what lines on which reel, and red seems to catch as many as green for me. Quote
Arv Posted June 26, 2013 Author Posted June 26, 2013 Thanks guys. Probably gonna get a spool or red PP when I order my new line Quote
bassin is addicting Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 i like the red better...easier to see for me. no problem with bleeding...it has lost some color over 4 years of use.... but i'm ok with the color (almost a pinkish) lol!! Quote
Diggy Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 I have it on my orra s spinning combo, no reason other than it looks sexy on the black and red setup I will be buying high vis yeller next for my reels for line watching purposes Quote
hooah212002 Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 I did encounter bleeding with my red PP. It got all over my veritas, but did not stain and I could wipe it right off. Quote
thehooligan Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 I use the red, green, and yellow. Usually color coordinate it with the right rod/reel combo. Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted June 27, 2013 Super User Posted June 27, 2013 I just assume line bleeding as a minor inconvenience when using braid. See if you can Google the braid spooling video from the late, great Jose Wejebe. Essentially you put the braid through a wrap of paper towel, then snake the paper towel through your fingers. This allows you to keep the braid nice and tight, AND remove some of the excess die. I usually do this witha paper towel that I add KVD L&L to I don't think I'll ever buy green braid again, either for freshwater or saltwater fishing. The other colors are easier to see, and I can always add a leader or color the last few feet of the braid black witha Sharpie if I'm concerned about line visibility to the fish. 1 Quote
