ClackerBuzz Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 lots of good braids on the market. i also use PP but in hi viz yellow. makes all the difference in the world for me. i can see the line run sideways or at me much better. i used to hate those kinda sneaky bites b/c you don't feel anything. now i love knocking the snot outta'm when they try and get tricky Quote
NWBasslover Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 ive decided to stay with spinning but im going to go to braided line whats the best braid i here power pro is good?? and with the leader do i alsoo use braid or mono and no im just looking for a new rod and reel what do you guys suggest?? thanks for all the help i really appriciate it There are a lot of questions wrapped up in that one! Reel - something like this, between $50-$60. I'm a Shimano or an Okuma fan myself. http://www.basspro.com/Shimano-Sedona-FD-Spinning-Reels/product/10203500/ Rod - Again, anything between $40-$60. Kind of partial to Abu Garcia myself. I would stick with m/h in fast action between 6'-7'. http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-Graphite-Series-Spinning-Rods/product/1204170505228/ Line - I'm a braid guy. Berkley Fireline on every reel. Everything between 12-50lbs depending on where and what I'm fishing. I would go with 20lbs braid, either PP or Fireline. Leader - NO MONO LEADERS! Either go no leader and tie direct or use a 15lb fluorocarbon leader. Hope that helps! Tight lines, Matthew Quote
Smallmouth Hunter Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 for around $100, I would get a h20 mettle baitcast reel and a h20 ethos cranking rod 7' M power F action. I think its $115 for the combo and for line I would go with 12-14 lb stren or Berkley tri-lene mono. This reel is easy to learn how to use and casts great. It also has a lifetime warranty. The only downside is you have to buy it at Academy sports which may not be in your area. Hope this helps! Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted June 27, 2013 Super User Posted June 27, 2013 Getting so many different opinions on brands of gear and line can be a bit confusing, this won't be your last outfit and in time you will know yourself what is best for you. On your budget I'm sure you can find something that will perform well. Never fishing heavy moss I really don't know how thick that stuff is, but if you have been pulling out nice fish on trout gear I would think no more 20# braid would be all that's needed. Leader or not is an individual choice, but if using one going too light negates the strength of the braid. If I may, let me give you a snag tip, do not use the rod to jerk your lure out, that can stress your rod and may lead to breakage. I always open the bail and release the tension off the tip, then I wrap the line around my shoulder and just walk backwards, your legs and shoulders are stronger than your arms. The bow snapping technique can work quite well too. Quote
