martintheduck Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 Get some Mann's 30's on something other than mono Quote
Super User bigbill Posted June 26, 2013 Super User Posted June 26, 2013 Are you sure these are bass at 30'? We had the fish finder on while moving the boat over the deeper part of the water and it showed bigger fish, I guessed there carp or catfish I use a count down jointed rapala for vertical jigging. It really works great. Quote
Highhawk1948 Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 Rapala makes a count down crankbait. They work without losing action. Quote

Lake had 85 boats on it the other night at 8pm and its not that large, probably part of the reason a hair jig works. They are certainly not all bass but theres bass on this piece of structure. Im going to get some 10 and put it on the crankn rod to see what happens. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted June 27, 2013 Super User Posted June 27, 2013 Bass Star Dredger maybe? Quote
jhoffman Posted June 27, 2013 Author Posted June 27, 2013 Ill look into that big bass man. I just ordered a spool of 10lb abrazx Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted June 27, 2013 Super User Posted June 27, 2013 You know I'd be throwing a swimbait. LOL Quote
Zach P Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 It honestly depends on what type of structure you are throwing to and what you believe is down by the fish. If you think it is just rock then I would not hesitate to throw smaller diameter line such as 10 or 12 pound. It will allow you to get the lure down to it's true running depth. Quote
Super User OkobojiEagle Posted June 27, 2013 Super User Posted June 27, 2013 Whats down there is a road Then what's all the fuss about... just drive a little closer to where you want to cast! oe Quote
TNBassin' Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 I would try strolling/long lining to get your bait deeper. Short of the 10xd or waiting for a countdown to sink, there aren't any other option at that depth, crankbait wise. This. We do this all the time on Douglas Lake, and it works great. Quote
BobP Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 I build 25+ ft crankbaits but for practicality, I like a 4.5 or 5" hollow belly swimbait on a 3/4oz jig head, exposed hook, thrown on 20 lb braid. It's just simple to use and is versatile for any depth. Cast it out, let it hit bottom, and slow roll it back. It gives you longer contact with the bottom than any deep crankbait and bigger bass love them. 1 Quote
