basssnatcher99 Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 what pound test and floro, mono or braid work best for cranks Quote
smr913 Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Pretty broad question here. For shallow cranks like squarebills that you are throwing in timber you can get away with 15-20 lb. From there the smaller diameter, will in theory, get you deeper given a few extra variables. For most general purposes I use 10-12 Yo-Zuri Hybrid. I like mono or floro for cranks since I don't use a traditional Moderate action rod for cranking and it gives more than braid. Quote
skeletor6 Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 I would use a quality fluorocarbon and choose your diameter based on the depth you want your cranks to run. 2 Quote

gr8outdoorz Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 IMO for med to deep cranks you definitlely want fluorocarbon to help get them down. I use 10lb on med/deep cranks. For shallow it really does not matter the type b/c its easier to keep them at running depth. I use 12lb yozui (copoly) on my shallow / lipless rod but fluoro or mono would work fine. As others have said, line size will affect crank depth as well. The smaller diameter the line, the less drag it has in the water so it will sink faster (fluoro & copoly). Smaller diameter mono will not float as well. Hope this helps! Quote
bass1980 Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 I use 15lb Seaguer Invx for shallow/square bill and 10lb of the same lines for med to deep diving cranks but I don't do deep cranks much. I am satisfy with this line considering I was using Berkley Vanish once "double face palm". Quote
BobP Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 Fluoro will get a deep crankbait maybe a foot deeper with a little more feel during the retrieve. Whether that is important enough to pay a premium for fluoro is up to you. I use fluoro for lots of things but most of the time, I throw cranks on 10-12 lb copolymer line like Yozuri or Izor. I think feel is important when fishing crankbaits but I use a graphite rod, not glass, and copolymer on a graphite rod gives me enough sensitivity. There are all kinds of considerations about line type and size that you can take into account but unless he has 20 bass rods in the boat, Average Joe will be fishing crankbaits on 12 lb nylon monofilament. Arv Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 12# Yo Zuri Hybrid or 16# Sunline Sniper. Depends on the cover I'm fishing. Quote
mikeeasttn Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 I use 10# P-Line CXX on a 7'6" glass rod. Works for me. Deep or Swallow running. Glass rod will keep them pinned better once on your crank. Quote
JeziHogg Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 For squarebills I run either 15lb or 17lb Seaguar Invisx because of rocks and other structure is more condensed For Medium to Deep divers I use 10lb Seaguar Invisx because cover is a little more sparse and thinner diameter will get you down deeper. wnybassman Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 An oddball here, I have used 30 pound Spiderwire Invisi-braid for the last three years. No leader. Quote
Got1Fishing Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 I like to use 30# Suffix 832, sometimes with a leader. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted June 27, 2013 Super User Posted June 27, 2013 Anything that isn't a square bill i use 8lb diameter power pro super slick. Square bills i am using 10lb diamter PP super slick. I know many scoff at using braid for cranking but i have found it works better and lasts longer and provides more feedback to me as to what the crank is doing down deep. 2 Quote
Super User bigbill Posted June 27, 2013 Super User Posted June 27, 2013 Fishing from shore I been using the Excaliber Silver Thread Copolymere in either 8lb. or 10lb test. I also use the ball bearing snap swivels. The snap swivels allow the lure to hinge smoother on the side to side movement. The lighter line lets the lure do its thing. Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted June 27, 2013 Super User Posted June 27, 2013 i use Stren Sonic braid with a mono leader. no problems yet. Quote
