Last week, my pole almost got dragged in by a catfish because i set the pole on the bank unattended, but today I did it again. This time my pole got dragged in to the pond.  I dived in trying to get my pole back, but i coudn't feel it on the bottom of the pond, then i realize I had my      i phone in my pocket the whole time....so today I lost my phone and my $200 baitcasting rod and reel combo. I learned my lesson, NEVER LEAVE A POLE UNATTENDED WHEN CATFISHING!

id drag a big treble hook or something across every inch of that pond trying to get that combo back. and call me childish but LOL at you. sorry to hear about your loss, but if you can afford to have an iphone and a $200 baitcast combo then you can afford to have a bank fishing rod holder too

Stuff like this happens. We all forget something here and there. One of my sons left a long pole unattended and a 3 pound bass took the worm and the pole for a ride around the pond. Fortunately the pole floats, and another of my boys took a different rod and cast out to retrieve the pole -- and the bass!!

On the other end of things, I lost a phone, a camera, crocs, and a trolling motor in a canoe "accident". So like I said, it happens. Keep your chin up, chest out, don't get too discouraged. And like Red suggested, take a big old treble hook and drag the bottom.

Or if you can grab some snorkel gear and search, that could help, too.

That is so rotten! I'd drag every inch of that pond. If that ain't work get some goggles and a snorkle. I'm the man that goes swimming if I snag and lose a crankbait. Least for the expensive ones (over 10 dollars) anyway.

Also check a semicircle radius around where the rod went in at. if you find any form of structure, I'm willing to bet the rod is snagged up in it.

don't power ur phone up when wet (sounds like it may be too late). stick it in a can/zip lock full of rice all night. only power it up after its dried out.

Had my rod sitting on some rip rap one day while catfishing, and one started to pull it in.  I ran across the rip rap, got my pole before it went in, but did a job on my knee on the rocks.  Couldn't walk on it or bend it for about 10 days.

Always use a rod holder!!
