PoorBoyBassin Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Hello all! My name is Mark. Born n raised in Va. Been fishing since I was knee high to a grasshoppa! Love all kinds of fishing, but if I have a choice, Im fishing for those bucket mouths! I consider the Chickahamony River in Williamsburg Va, to be my home body of water. Last 10 years or so, I've been fishing alot of Bass tourneys, as a none boater. Spending that much time on the back of others boats, you tend to pick up on alot of spots from them, So 2014 Im looking to purchase my own bass boat. Nothing to big, a 19 foot, with a 150 on the back will work just fine. Planning on fishing all I can fish tournament wise in the up comming year. If there's anyone out there planning on visiting Va, for bass fishing... Shoot me a line, chances are good I can head you in the right direction in the way of what to throw on what ever body of water your fishing around here. Places Ive fished : Chick River, James River, Pamunky river, Matapani River, Potomic (leesylvayna state park( DONT mind the spelling there!), Buggs Island, Lake Gaston, Lake Anna, SmithMountain Lake, and 100's of smaller local lakes between Richmond Va, and Virginia Beach Va. while Im no expert on bass fishing... I feel as though I can give good sound advice on any of those bodys of water mentioned above.. so feel free to ask!!!!! SO far Im liking this site... lots of positive info here for anyone looking for it.. and Im looking forward to contributing my part Thanks for takin the time to read this Respectfully, PoorBoy Quote

SML is a nice deep clear lake.. with TONS of docks.... frustrating for me the first couple years.. because there's not much for clear water around where I fish... def a learning experience an now feel comfortable fishing in clear water or stained. practice practice practice! lolol Quote

Only fished docks and coves around the state park. Clarity was indeed amazing. Saw (and caught) some lunkers under the big dock at the boat launch. We were using long poles on Friday, I happened to have a bag of watermelon red flake so I wacky rigged it under a float and BANG! Big bass on, several. But the haul of what, 14' up the dock was too much for some and they shook off. Quote

Weeds at Harwood's Mill are absolutely awful this year. Quote

Weeds at Harwood's Mill are absolutely awful this year. Bethel Res has a couple nice roadbeds in it, both sides dropping off to about 14 feet.. with the chanel being around 18 feet when the water is up. there's also an old church foundation , if your facing the d**n... the last point on the left... about 20 yards off that point where the drop ends in deeper water is the base structure of the church. I know the Langley has been running the park since I was a kid, and I havent fished it in ten years probably, but I would guess that the public still has access to fish it... an well worth it if your in the area to stop in an give a whirl. PoorBoyBassin Posted June 25, 2013 Author Posted June 25, 2013 Hello Mark, good to see you here.I havent fished the Chick in years but its been on my mind lately. Im headed to Kerr this weekend for a couple of tournaments.Havent fished there in a long time either.Anyways welcome aboard! Thanks for the welcome Keith. If your fishing Kerr... Do you know where your launching? I have some decent spots towards the upper part of the lake. if your launching out of NorthBend state park.. then your golden.. you can launch an be fishing in 5 mins where as most run to the mid lake point an start there. If you look on the map of kerr lake... from the d**n, heading down lake, on the left side there's a huge cove, on the map its called "the graveyard". If your facing that cove.. there's the point on the left hand side. about 20 yards from that point , into the cove.. there's a stump field that runs from about 15 feet off shore all the way out to the channel that comes off the main lake into the cove. thats about 300 yards of stumps on that lil section. Good fishing... C-rig a lizard or trickworm, Crank bait that runs between 6 to 10ft, chartrues/blackback, or Blue/Blackback. Had luck on a summer craw jignpig. I fished the FLW 6man team some years back off the back of a boat of a total stranger. We fished that spot I mentioned for both days of the two day tourny. First day I didnt fair so well... only 3 fish that went 8 pounds, he ofcourse killed them on a speed trap, 5 fish 17pounds. second day.. he let me run the front of the boat... an I had the best day of fishing ever to date. I had a limit on the second day.. with 3 of the fish going 5+ pounds each, 1 fish 4.3, and 1 fish 3.8. I missed finishing in the money by a small amount.. an had I caught 1 more fish the first day.. would have placed. Heres my inside take on that spot right there. You've got two main lake points on the left side close together... and the key to those two points was this.. we fished for two hours to start the second day on those two points... the boat traffic was thick that morning.. an the lake was its normal clearness, until those boats kept zooming by us... its a tall clay bank between the two points, and all those wake waves were crashing up on the clay an pulling down a bit into the water... cause a clay slick so to speak that enxended out well past the first drop .... the fish started pulling up to that point an abushing anything comming outa the slick into the clearer water on the drop. it eventualy worked its way around to the secondary point with the stup field on it... was awesome fishing once it got around to the stumps... we moved back n forth all day long between the two main lake points an the stump field on the secondary point just inside the cove and caught a ton of fish, best day on Kerr lake I've ever had. there's also straight accross from NorthBend, on the carolina side.. "SattelWite point Marina" (spelling!!!!) if you go up in that creek... there's another public launch ramp... just past that is a secondary creek on the right... in that creek is deeper water from start to finish in the back... I've done well this time of year back in there, throwing a hank parker classic, double willow leaf, chartrues. and a black/blue jig n pig. theres several bends on that creek... all of them filled with BuckBrush... an the first one you come to on the right... is awesome... the channel swings right to the tip of the bend.. an its a great transission spot for the active feeding bass. I could go on an on about that lake.. its one of my fav places to fish.. although the last couple years.. the qaulity of fish has dropped.. I would assume because of the "Large mouth bass desease" (spelling), last about 3 years or so.. then its starts to make the up swing back to normal... I would guess that its gettin back to the point where you can pull up on any spot an catch some decent fish...which makes that place one of the best fisherys in Va Hope that bit of info helps in some way.. an if you have any more ?'s feel free to ask away... an if I can answer I will... Tight lines all!!!! Mark 1 Quote

I dont know the areas mentioned but im definitely going to check out those area you mentioned if its possible.Im pumped man, thanks again. One more spot close to the "GraveYard" Spot I was talking about. if turn around from that main lake point an look straight accross the lake to the opposite side, there's a creek, just inside the creek you can see the power line crossing it. Theres a cut on the left side of that creek and the power line boarders that cut. The bank with the power line on it is deeper then the rest of the cut, an that point right there swings out in an arch back towards the main lake, an the channel swings in right next to the outside edge, another good spot this time of year. Have had luck with a C-Rigged PumpkinSeed chart/tail. Also throwing a perch pattern crank running 8-10ft . I couldnt tell you the name brand of the crank, because it was a custom made bait that Kelly Pratt (Chickahominy Local Pro) gave to me one day while were standing at the rt5 launch ramp. (Fished a few tournaments with him on the chick back in the day, super nice down to earth guy) Quote
