I recently switched over to fluoro for my jig fishing, 22lb shooter. I sprayed the hell out of it with KVD and stretched out a cast length of line but I still have issues when it comes to keeping it from coiling, any tips for managing this stuff better?

Only a couple days of use and I'm ready to switch back to braid.

I've never used Fluoro past 17lb...and even that got annoying. I have never tried Sunline but I have been happy with the fluoros from Seaguar. You might need to give it some more aggressive treatments.  I only use fluoro on my crankbait rods and braid for almost everything else.  Mono for jerkbait, topwater set up.

I really started using braid to a fluoro leader. Its my new favorite combo as far as line goes for my fishing. I don't have nearly the issues with the heavier fc backlashing and keeping memory.

Try this and see how you like it: Tie the leader to braid so that the knot is about 6" above the reel.

This takes the knot out of play.  Cut the fluorocarbon 6" or so above the rod tip. Best of both worlds!

I am not sure why anyone would need floro above 15# for general jig fishing. If you are flipping and pitching heavy cover then yes I would get some heavier line possibly or braid. If you are casting the jigs I would not go over 15#. Frankily I have moved some pretty good fish out of some thick cover using 12# shooter and never had an issue.

Sorry to hear of the manageability issues, but that line # floro line in general is just going to be far and away less manageable. Tatsu and invisix are better lines for manageability but I haven't tried either above 15#.

Shooter is nice line, but seriously what are you fishing for with 22# fluoro? You'll see massive improvements in manageability switching over to tatsu and lowering the strength. Tatsu breaks heavier than rated. Its some tough, manageable line.

Thanks I may have to try that, I conditioned the line 2 weeks before and again a few days before

Got nothing for ya then.

I typically treat a spool when I get it, spray when I change line and then the night before I go fishing.

I do all that as well as a spritz right before heading out. Heckm if it becomes unruly while fishing I spray again.

But then, I don't use 22# fluoro.

Describe your reel, spinning or casting and the model number.

If you are using a spinning reel, the spool diameter is more than likely too small, you need a very large diameter spool similar to off shore spinning reel used in the ocean.

If the reel is a bait caster, the spool diameter agian has an affect on high memory filament line, mono or FC.

The tighter you wind larger diameter line around a small diameter spool the more memory it will retain, because the line takes a set with time under pressure.

FC line is water proof, meaning it doesn't absorb water or most fluids, including KVD line conditioner. KVD will coat the FC and aid in lubricating the line, however it will not stress relieve the high memory tensil properties.

I use Sunline Shooter in 25 lb on my Calcutta 400 reel for heavy swimbaits when fishing the winter months for the deeper running swimmers. Cold winter temperatures also affect FC and or mono line. To manage the 25 lb FC I use TangleFree line conditioner and keep the 2 oz bottle in the vest pocket so I can apply it as need while fishing. TangleFree works better for me, reduces memory and allows water to stay on the line longer, this keeps the line down on the spool longer. I apply the TangleFree about every 30 minutes of casting time.

Standard size bait casting reels with spools less the 2" diameter, the max FC line I use is 15 lb, too small of spool for the 20 or 25 lb FC.

Another braid + fluoro leader fan here. No worries about managing straight fluoro.

Heaviest fluoro leader I'm using is 12lb.

I've been playing around with 20# Toray Superhard and am just as frustrated as you.

The coils you're getting are right after the cast, right? I found that with these FC's you need to thumb the spool the entire time during a cast, and actually spend the time to dial in your cast controls to the point where your baits slowly descend.

I'm sticking with the FC because I'm not throwing 40 dollars into the garbage - I'm sure I can overcome and eventually reap the benefits of FC.

I fish 20lb 100% Trilene fluoro on a 301 Curado with my sinking swimbaits without any problems.

Ec1 this is exactly what's happening to me, it's a major pain in the... And like you said at 40 bucks a spool I'm not quite ready to strip it off and put on the braid.
