So this year I really got back into fishing and a lot of my tackle is at least 10 years old. Are newer baits "better" than the older ones that I have? Like are LC Sammys better than the Zara Spooks that I have, or newer crankbaits better than the old bandits and rebels that I have? Or would you even replace an older lure with a newer one of the same type?

Are they newer lures better (move more, better made, greater hooks) or are they just new?

I know its all subjective but I'm really not sure. In a perfect world I'd just buy a whole bunch of new stuff:)

The bait monkey would tell you to buy all new baits but if you have got quality older baits I would suggest to just upgrade the hooks and maybe the split rings.

If you are like the rest of us though , buying a few new baits is a must.

I like a fine blend of old & new  :)

Some are better, some are not. Wish I had some of the "good" old ones left.

I find myself fishing more of my older baits, Zara Spooks being one of them, but how could you not want to purchase some of the newer ones on the market and not trying them out? You'll be fishing those newer baits again in 10 years asking the same question...LOL

Rat L-Traps are the same everything, yeah, that includes the same s*y hooks

Spooks are the same as they used to be, that includes the same s*y hooks

Torpedos ---> idem

Jitterbugs ---> idem

Some lures old lures I would change without hesitation ( ex Spook vs Sammy ) others, probably not, I still fish with a lot of my old lures.
