Bmilt09 Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I am a college student that has just recently started bass fishing in the Midlothian/Richmond area. Unfortuantaly I do not have a bass boat, so I am stuck on the bank. I have not had much luck at Southlake, and Centerpointe off of Lucks Lane besides for a couple small bass. Does anyone have any suggestions on where else I should test my luck? I might try the pond off of Huguenot Road behind the Martins tomorrow. Thanks guys. Quote
Tim1212 Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Try the ponds at Waterford, or the midlo coal mine pondsAlso, try the one in the Grove neighborhood, I've been catching fish using live bluegill in the evening. You can also go fishing at that reservoir, but I have no luck fishing there. Lake Patrick Henry and Salisbury lake is good, but fish away from the swimming beach at Lake Salisbury. My friend told me stories of his big bass from Walton Lake, but never went fishing there. There's also some ponds behind the sheraton hotel. Also, I go fishing at a small pond behind the Super Radiator Coils (it a business where my uncle used to work at). Tell me how you do at the pond behind Kroger's. Quote
Tim1212 Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Martins* I thought you were talking about the pond behind kroger's on huguenot road Quote
Super User Teal Posted June 25, 2013 Super User Posted June 25, 2013 Paging Dr. Sam, paging Dr.Sam.... Sam is the resident Richmond area guru, if he doesn't chime in, send him a PM. I've seen threads where he has mentioned multiple bank fishing spots in and around Richmond. Quote

Funny, about 10 years ago Lake Salisbury was a midnight swimming hole for me and my dirty punk friends. Got chased out of there many times and never thought about fishing. Quote
Bmilt09 Posted June 25, 2013 Author Posted June 25, 2013 I actually couldn't make it out today, but I am definitely going out tomorrow. What would you recommend using? Also, I heard Walton Lake and Salisbury Lake were private ponds is this true? Quote

I know the life guards there..90% of the people that go to the lake dont have a membership like me..go on weekdays. If they ask for a lake pass just say no DONT TRY TO LIE Quote
Super User Sam Posted June 25, 2013 Super User Posted June 25, 2013 I sent a PM. Thanks for mentioning me!!!! Quote
mjjbn4 Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Can you fish in those ponds behind the Sheraton hotel? I'll be down in Richmond tomorrow and staying at that hotel actually. Would love to just step out back of the hotel and go fishing. Quote
Bmilt09 Posted June 26, 2013 Author Posted June 26, 2013 Hey guys I made it out to the pond off Huguenot Road, and still I only had landed a couple real small bass. It might be what I am using. I am using a Zoom Fluke with a 2/0 worm hook. Any suggestions?? Quote
Super User Sam Posted June 26, 2013 Super User Posted June 26, 2013 mjjbn, the ponds are posted but you can fish them unless you get run off. The middle pond is OK. Lots of small bass. Give it a shot. Bmilt, scale down. Fish the tree line best you can. Finesse worms work as will Senkos. Hit the area where the water goes under the road. Lots of small bass but now and then you may catch a nice one. Feed the ducks. Quote
grayAG Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 jktim23113, have you fished the coal mine pond this year? I know it was drained last year during the construction, so I didn't think anything was really in it any longer. Quote

I know it was drained last year during the construction, so I didn't think anything was really in it any longer.I have fished it and I didn't have any luck. It didn't look any good because they were dozens of dead fish that floated up to the banks, so I figured it wouldn't be any good. Quote

That's Southlake. There are two lakes in Southlake and you can find them down the road from Super Radiator Coils. Check out a map and you can find them. The big one and the second smaller one that is east towards the DMV that hardly is ever fished. There are some nice bass in the Southlake pond but fishing is slow. Give it a shot, anyway. I don't know if there is a pond behind the Super Radiator Coils shop. Let me know. Salisbury people will run you off their lake or call the Chesterfield police. So be careful and have your license with you. The ponds behind the Sheraton have small bass, and lots of them. Ignore the "No Fishing" signs. Have you tried the ponds in the Boulders? Look them up on Google. Quote
