CiMo Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Looking for either a MH with good back bone or maybe H for bigger spinner baits maybe even some jigs ect lipless crank baits, and a medium for other lures and such any advice would be apreciated. Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted June 23, 2013 Super User Posted June 23, 2013 Looking for either a MH with good back bone or maybe H for bigger spinner baits maybe even some jigs ect lipless crank baits, and a medium for other lures and such any advice would be apreciated. Of those 3 I'd go with the Mojo. They are tech specific and much better quality control than the Abu's. Quote
Blues19 Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Veritas is much more sensitive than the Vendetta. I love my veritas, and my Vendetta isnt too bad. Havent tried the Mojo, but heard good things Quote
NWBasslover Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 I actually sold my Mojo to buy a Veritas. But I'm a big Abu fan. I had a lot of problems with St. Croix years ago, but that was with their steelhead poles. Haven't tried one in a couple years. Tight lines. Matthew Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted June 24, 2013 Super User Posted June 24, 2013 I have owned all three and i like the 7 MHF casting mojo and have used it hard for over two years and have no complaints. The one thing to remember with the Mojo rods is they are probably a 1/2-1 power rating higher than their ratings. And don't get caught up in the technique specific labeling because that is all it is, labeling. I don't like the 7' MHF as a spinnerbait rod even though that is what it is labeled for, i prefer it for frogs, jigs and heavier texas rigs. I haven't owned a veritas casting but i have owned 2 of their spinning rods and they are nice and light and sensitive but they just didn't feel right for me for some reason. I think they are almost to stiff but the 7. MF i had did make a really good jerkbait rod. I did have two of them break on hooksets between the tip and the next eye down which were replaced by bass pro with no issues but after breaking two i sold the last replacement and he is still fishing it over a year later. I had a vendetta when they first came out and honestly don't remember much about it Quote
mnbassman23 Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I have a mojo (crankbait) and really like it. I have abused the crap out of it for 4 years and it's never missed a beat. I have broke 2 Vendetta's both the old and new model and am done with them. Even though they are only 10$ to replace I hate breaking rods and I have heard a lot of breaking issues with both the vendettas and veritas. Quote
Blues19 Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 There are alot of people who have had the Veritas break, but Abu does have a 3 year warrenty for it. And my 7' MH is very stiff, but to me its perfect for jigs or T-Rigging soft Plastics Quote
craww Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Veritas without a doubt, much more sensitive and well balanced in my hand. Veritas also has awesome guides for its price. I used my mojo for the first time in a few years yesterday and instantly remembered why I quit using it (7'M). Just a dead, tip heavy rod. Factoring in I had 2 inserts fall out previously and I would never buy one again. Don't know much about the current gen vendetta. Quote
Diggy Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Mojo feels uber heavy for some reason. I prefer the veritas. Quote
SwampLife Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Out of those I would pick veritas! But since you are in the $100 price range the one I would choose is the *** *** black.. IMO and a bunch of others on this forum the *** black is the best 100 dollar rod out there! Quote
Grantman83 Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I've owned them all. Veritas is lightest but more tip heavy. It is also EXTREMELY stiff. I picked up a 7ft heavy and it has no tip. Close to a broomstick as you can get. I would put it much closer to an extra or mag heavy. To put it in comparison, I have a champion 736 and it is much easier to bend. I won't use braid on it because it will have literally no stretch. However, with Fluoro it is a great heavy jig/t rig rod. My medium spinning rod is at least a medium heavy. Again, heavier rating than listed. I had 3 mojos and they were much more well rounded rods. Again, they are generally heavier than their rating but not even close to the veritas. The slop and frog rod was very heavy and tip Heavy to boot but it was a sold rod. The plastics rod was just as rated. Medium fast was a true medium fast. The vendettas are good for the price but the heaviest of the 3. Again, very stiff rods. Abu does have a good warranty. Veritas rods have a rep for breaking so the warranty is a good cover. I would say bring your reel and try them on each if U can... Balance means the most imo Quote
craww Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Don't sleep on the bps carbonlites either...IMO it's better than all 3. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 24, 2013 Global Moderator Posted June 24, 2013 I owned a 7' MH Mojo until I upgraded to the LTB version of it last year. It fishes large spinnerbaits well and doubles as a pretty good lighter duty pitching rod. It's too stiff for traps IMO but if you really needed to rip one it would work, just not sure how well it will keep fish pinned when you hook up. Quote
leadslinger Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I own 3 MB (7'0" M/F) and love them. Bought a 7'0" MH Veritas microguide just to try something different. I bought the MH after hearing their MH was more like M. Veritas is lighter, but felt stiffer. Lost casting distance compared to MB. Just felt dead. It now sits in my garage while the 3 MB's still get to ride on the boat. Personal preference, but you gotta have your Mojo, baby. (Austin Powers reference). Side note- The top eyelet insert came out (and lost) after 2 years. Just called St. Croix and they are sending replacement at no cost. Very nice customer service. good luck either way. Quote
Arv Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 As far as actual fishing, I'd pick the Veritas. I like working lures with it more than the Mojo. BUT, the trigger doesn't feel very good on my hand/fingers and I much prefer cork over eva. Its really a toss up if you ask me. I'd recommend checking out the Shimano Compre as well as the ***. The Compre is my favorite 100 dollar rod. I haven't handled an *** but I've hear an overwhelming amount of good things about it. Quote
