leadslinger Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Just noticed the insert for the top eyelet of my St. Croix Mojo Bass rod is missing. Is there any disadvantage to fishing without? The metal eyelet itself appears undamaged, still a perfect circle. Is it worth the expense of repairing? I bought the rod at BP a couple years ago. Love the rod otherwise! I use braid w/ fc leader on that rod. Thanks Bill Quote
Capt.Bob Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 YES!! most tackle shops can do it while you wait for a couple bucks, the price of the guide,,,if you don't want to do it yourself. It is one of the most importand guides on you rod and will be vary hard on your line if you don't repair it. Quote
HuskyKMA Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Very easy and inexpensive fix. You don't want to use it without the insert, especially with braid as it will fray the line. See if your local tackle shop or rod builder (Google "frederick maryland rod builder" for some local places) can do it for you or you can give it a shot yourself. They make kits for replacing the tip-top guide for rods that people have broken the tip off of. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Definitely repair as suggested. It can be DIY but the kits may not have the right size top. Most are too large. The tube should slide over the tip easily but not slop around. Guides are sized by the ring size in mm and the tube size in 64ths of an inch, sometimes with a mm equiv. Quote
leadslinger Posted June 24, 2013 Author Posted June 24, 2013 Thx for input. Called St. Croix and they are sending DIY kit. Nice customer service group I must say. Quote
Bass Dude Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 The only thing you may need is a heat gun. You will need that to melt the glue, then you can just pull the old tip off. Quote
