Whats the best way to get a sponsor? Because creme lures seems to have interest in me and even gave my 5 lb bass some fame on facebook. Does that mean if i keep it up that theyll consider me a sponsorship if needed?

go for it. the worst that can happen is that they say no. from what i have heard about creme, you have to be pretty active through social media to be considered for pro staff. add a bunch of people who fish on facebook and make a youtube channel. if they say no at first, buy their baits and catch fish with them. post pics of the fish caught with the baits on their wall and get to know the owners. good luck.

Thanks, they said they're forming a field staff and we could talk about it. Which is definetly a start because ive presented to other companies and they just gave me that we have nothing available excuse.

Ya they actually do that to alot of people, me at first. Then i spent hours writing a sponsorship email and got turned down. Finally i used facebook for a company and helped them and then asked for a sponsorship. They immediatly considered me. You have to give before you receive. Good luck, keep trying.

I wouldnt pay much attention to all the things the people have posted with the links to  answers through bass resource like they did above, it all that is is discouraging. Just fish your ass off get your name out there and contact as many companies as possible and thats just a start.

I'm going to play the devil's advocate here.  First, why do you need a sponsor?  Have you fished BFL's or the Weekend Series?  What are you stats in those tournaments?  What do you do to get your name out there?  Are you a well know "stick" on your home lake?  Secondly, lots of people have caught 5 pound bass....why would creme sponsor you for catching a 5 pound bass.

I see this a lot on here.  Why does everyone need a sponsor??  You can buy a jersey and they will put whatever logos you want on it!!!  The pros need sponsorship because it costs roughly $30K (if not more) just in entry fees.  That's not including gas, hotel and all the rest of the essentials you need on the road.  Go fishing....and pay for it yourself.  The pros paid their dues to get their sponsors and to be where they are.  They ponied up the cash and sacrificed a lot of things to reach the level they're at.  Once they became successful, the sponsorships started coming in.  Heck, there were stories out there at the beginning of the year about some of the pros that can't fish because they can't find sponsors.  These are PROS that have experience and a resume that anyone would be proud of....and they can't find sponsors.  Randy Blauket and Mary Stone are two pros that come to mind that have had to back out at one time or another because of lack sponsoships.

My rant is over......just go fish.  Don't worry about sponsorships.

There is a series of videos on youtube about what it takes to be an elite. 70k a year is the break even point. There is less than 15 elites making over 100k a year fishing. If you are not independently wealthy, you will starve without sponsors.

We just had the jersey discussion at the dock this past tourney. My sons buddies had jerseys bought for them from the bar they frequent. The bar's name is dead center across the front and back. They had a handful of logos on the jersey, one of which they pro staff for. The rest because they wanted to look cool   They didn't hear the end of it from the guys, and the ribbing got worse after weighing in 2 fish.  I'd be surprised if they wear the jerseys to the next tourney.

To the OP, Good luck with your quest for free gear. May I suggest you look for local business' to sponsor you. We've got guys with boats wrapped with local business' and sports teams logos. You get to look cool and they get a tax write off. You might even get them to flip for a tourney or two.

Its actually not discouraging at all. It's the truth. And to the OP, just because they put a picture of you on there page doesn't mean they have a single thought of sponsoring you. I'm not saying this to be mean but it's doesn't make sense at all to sponsor someone who doesn't fish tournaments.

Why are you trying to get sponsors? To help save money on lures?

If you do not fish big tournaments and just want to promote them on facebook/youtube... then go contact the custom lure guys and ask them. But first go pony up some cash and make some very good youtube videos showing off your skills and some various products. You can then show these videos to the companies and tell them if they put you on their promotional staff then you will show off their lures and some fish caught on them in your videos.

If they give you 10% off consider yourself lucky. Later on down the road the free lures will start to come in.

Yes for the most part thats what im doing. See i should have asked this question differently, instead of a sponsorship i am looking to work for free. I want free lures but thats it, it's a way to show im trustworthy before i'm sponsored. I am going to do tournament fishing in a few years so i need people to consider me.

First you need to realize, sponsors do not care about you unless you can make money for them. They are not going to sponsor you just to advertise on your shirt, they want a staffer that can sell product. You need to make them more money than they spend on you, A LOT more. This is ALL about money, nothing else. A big company does not care about someone who posts about them on facebook, they want a big name that fishes BFL, FLW, or BASS and can get their logos on camera and in front of thousands of people. Anybody could post good things on facebook about a product.

Also you need to realize there will be more to it than just saying good things online and wearing their logos. You will need to go to trade shows, outdoor shows, product demonstrations, free fishing clinics, and various other events. All of this on your dime working for them. I don't mean to be disrespectful but most companies do not want a young kid to represent them at events, thus they have no need for you.

What you need to do at this point in your life is get a good education and do some fishing. In the mean time, shoot for the smaller guys and build yourself a reputation online with videos and reports.

Take all of the English classes you can from now through college. You will need to be very well spoken or sponsors will not even consider you.

You may start asking companies if they have a junior sponsorship program, some do. It is mostly for the young guys who fish youth tournaments and highschool tournaments. But be aware that a handful of free baits, or a $20 gift card is about all you are going to get from them. They do it for "charity" and to get their name out there. Most of them will be dropped like a hot rock as soon as they get out of the junior divisions unless they go directly to BFL, FLW or BASS.

A good example is a local guy here. He DOMINATED the local tournaments for years, won FLW tournaments as a boater and is one of the best fishermen I have ever seen. You think he is fully sponsored? Not even close.
