kedonot1 Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Hello everybody, I'm very new here and I've gotten into a trouble. I'm Steelhead/Rainbow Trout and Salmon fisherman, so bass fishing is a bit difficult for me. I've gone bass fishing as a kid, and used to get a lot of bass 3 years ago..but I stopped after my friend moved away. Today, I used the Bass Pro Senko...basically a copy of the Yamamotos.. Now, 3 years ago..at this one spot packed with Bass, I used a watermelon Yamamoto with a green tip tail. I would catch bass the first cast and it was a great time! Today, I used the cheap verison of the Yamamoto, the basspro verison..but it looks exactly identical. I didn't even get one bite today, and I was extremely frustrated. I'm not sure if the color isn't right, or its too early to go fishing for Bass, or what. I'm from Central New York, in Syracuse to be exact. Water color: The Soft Bait: I tried everywhere, miles of stretch of edge of the river..everywhere. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.. I've tried different types of bait, but I still didn't get anything. Someone please link baits that are guaranteed to work for bass for my water color..I would recommend from Bass Pro. I'm really just trying to have some fun with friends, since I'm working almost everyday. Please also add stuff that you recommend for weedless. Thanks so much everyone. Quote
buzzbait4me Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 If the watermelon GYCB Senko was working, I would go back with it. I have also found that I have so much more confidence in the original GYCB Senko than the knock off brands. Quote

I have also found that I have so much more confidence in the original GYCB Senko than the knock off brands. Well, it was working 3 years ago. Now I'm getting nothing..is there a specific color I should use? Quote
aceman387 Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 I would buy some berkley power worms in blue fleck color and texas rig them with a 1/4 worm weight and toss them around those trees in the water.I never had much luck in murky water wacky rigging, clear water yes.I would buy some black & blue colored soft plastics for murky water like that. 1 Quote
MichiganFishing1997 Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 That exact BPS bait is my go to bait.. bought a few packsyears ago and I love them.. I fish them wawacky rigged too. You could try it in a T rig if you like the color or go to a different color. I believe there is a better chance that its the color not he brand. But if you're more confident in the GYCB's then use them. 90% confidence is key. Quote
JigMe Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 That's a nice location on the pic. If fishing gets tough for me, then I will down size to a baby rage craw 1/8 bullet weight or weightless with 2/0 worm hook. My favorite color is summer craw, and black & blue. Or zoom super fluke fish it weightless, it is a very good search bait. You need to find them first, then slow down and work the whole area. Quote
kedonot1 Posted June 23, 2013 Author Posted June 23, 2013 So what exactly should I use? I'm thinking about ordering that 104-piece stik-o kit from Bass Pro..which has a bunch of different colors that I can try and It's $14. I'm also thinking Wacky rigging isn't working that great...what are those hooks called for Texas Rigging and what size hook for 5" - 6" Senko? Thanks everyone! Quote
Super User AK-Jax86 Posted June 23, 2013 Super User Posted June 23, 2013 I never have luck with watermelon colored senkos my color of choice (or the Jacksonville bass color of choice) is Black w/ Blue flake. I am a believer that if it is not a Yamamoto then it doesn't work. I have a few imitation senkos and it seems like I only catch fish on the Yamamotos, it's weird Quote
kedonot1 Posted June 23, 2013 Author Posted June 23, 2013 Looks like everyone is saying Black with Blue Flake, so that's what i'm going for! Should I stick to 4" or 5" senkos? and I'm gonna grab a bag of yamamotos for the hell of it. Quote
gallowaypt Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 I use a 3/0 offset worm hook for 5 in senkos Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 23, 2013 Global Moderator Posted June 23, 2013 Water looks pretty stained for a senko style bait, especially a watermelon color. Do like others have said if you're going to go with the Stick O and get a dark color like black and blue but I'd Texas rig a 5" version on a 4/0 hook with a 1/4oz bullet weight and fish it around those laydowns and any other cover you see. 1 Quote
ColdSVT Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 ya gotta change stuff up, if you fish the same bait for forever and not get any action you should certaily change tactics. perhaps you did nothin wrong and tje fish just werent hungry or maybe they wanted something else if they arent hungry look for a reation bite, if they are hungry keep changin until.you start catchin! jtharris3 Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 That looks like some nice spinner bait territory. Quote

Is there anything else you highly recommend except Senkos? I was thinking about buying white floating frogs. Quote
RAMBLER Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 That shore line sure looks good, to me. I'd use a Zoom trick worm, watermelon red, t-rigged, weightless on a 3/0 EWG hook. Hit the shore line right next to that lay down. Also, skip it up under any overhanging brush. Quote
Super User Sam Posted June 23, 2013 Super User Posted June 23, 2013 So what exactly should I use? I'm also thinking Wacky rigging isn't working that great...what are those hooks called for Texas Rigging and what size hook for 5" - 6" Senko? Thanks everyone! Good offer for $14. Go for it. Other suggestions: 1. Try a shaky head using green pumpkin Zoom trick worms on a 1/16 jig head fished on the bottom. 2. If you pull up a lot of slop off the bottom go with a Shaky Head using a green pumpkin finesse worm. Make sure the hook is high enough from the weight to hold the bait above the weeds and grass. Remember, your bait will be on an angle directly towards you from the weight unless you throw the rig straight down into the water. 3. Senko or YUM Dinger or the BPS baits you will be buying fished a) wacky and fished Texas. Both presentations without any additional weight so the plastic falls slow. You don't need a large hook. Try a 1/0 weedless Gammy or Eagle Claw. Graduate to larger hooks if there are larger bass in the pond. Go with weedless to reduce snags. 4. Throw all plastics in the heart of the wood, grass, pads, brush, etc. 5. Throw all plastics around any stumps, stickups, brushpiles, wood, pads, grass, etc. from all angles. 6. Throw all plastics, spinnerbaits, Chatterbaits, jigs/pigs, Texas rigged plastics, shaky heads, wacky rigs, etc. from different angles to your target. Fish the baits slow and remember, the more angles you try the faster you will find the pattern. 7. Colors. Green Pumpkin for stained water; Watermelon for clear water; Junebug, purple and black for heavy stained water. These are the basic colors. You then graduate to these color variations and other colors as you progress with your fishing. 8. Master flipping, pitching and skipping with a spinning rig. 9. Try 8-pound test fluorocarbon line. If you get hung up too many times go to braid. But 8-pound test fluorocarbon line for starters. 10. Don't limit your self to the fat stick worms. Try a baby brush hog; lizard; anything Rage Tail; the Flick Shake and the JIKA rigs. Throw these rigs to your target from different angles. And read what the guys offer as advice. Consider everything they tell you. Give their ideas a try. Remember, sometimes you get the bass and other times the bass get you. 1 Quote
Super User Sam Posted June 23, 2013 Super User Posted June 23, 2013 And one more important suggestion. Use MegaStrike and JJs Magic. These two products are outstanding. Remember, nothing leaves the boat without scent! Quote
