TylerCA Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Hey there. I have been fishing a lot of ponds lately and have been really nailing em on a 3/8oz chartreuse booya doubble willow leaf spinner bait. Have also been doing really well on rattle traps. Sometimes when bass are uninterested, the best thing to do is try to get them to reaction bite. If that doesn't work for you-you could always try using a weightless senko (wacky rigged), lethargic bass seem to not be able to resist. Hope this helps! Quote
banker Posted June 22, 2013 Author Posted June 22, 2013 Forgot to mention I'm fishing in central florida Quote
BassAssassin726 Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Youre problem is in your question. If you can see them then they can see you! Sometimes even if you cant see them they can still see you. Back up away from the bank or go further down and make long casts. Usually once they see you its tough to get em to bite. Quote
Super User Sam Posted June 22, 2013 Super User Posted June 22, 2013 Youre problem is in your question. If you can see them then they can see you! Sometimes even if you cant see them they can still see you. Back up away from the bank or go further down and make long casts. Usually once they see you its tough to get em to bite. Yep. You may be too close to the bank. Having the weather for the two days before and the day you fish would be helpful. Don't forget to give us the water clarity which reads like it is clear. If the bass are eating shad then you need to throw a silver with black or blue back #5 and #7 Shad Rap. Black if cloudy; silver if blue bird skies. I would think they may be deep looking for oxygen and some cooler water so maybe you need to try a Senko, YUM Dinger and a shaky head. If there is grass on the bottom try a shaky head with the hook the number of inches from the weight to match the height of the grass or the top part of the grass. Your challenge is to find where the bass are holding and what they want to each on each day. We call this the "pattern." Easier said then done. Once you find the pattern you will clobber them. Keep a log for each outing so you will create a picture of the pond and what the fish are doing under specific conditions. You can find a fishing log in the links at the top of the Forum's home page. Good luck and let us know how you do and post some pics. Also consider adding your geographical location to your avatar. And as usual, please don't forget your needle nose pliers to remove the hooks easily. Quote

Sorry, meant to write try a Drop Shot, not a shaky head for this presentation. Quote
zwhiten12 Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Bass seem to not be able to resist a weightless senko in my opinion, good luck! Quote
Smallmouth Hunter Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 All I can say is MATCH THE HATCH. Try swim baits, spinnerbaits that look like shiners and try varying your retrieve speed. Another technique is plastic worms or flukes with a very light weight and just let it fall slowly near them and thy should crush it! Good luck! Quote
Revival Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Patience is one of the most important thing in bass fishing. What baits/lures were you using? What time of the day were you fishing? Was that the first time fishing at that pond? How big is the pond? The more detailed information you give, the better. Quote
CPBassFishing Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Stand back from the bank about 20 feet. If that fails skip a shiner colored fluke right on top of them, it might trigger a bite. Quote
banker Posted June 30, 2013 Author Posted June 30, 2013 Thank you for all the tips. No grass away from the Bank just alot of algie the water ix always pretty clear. Fairly shollow accept right inthe middle. Quote
banker Posted June 30, 2013 Author Posted June 30, 2013 Fish this pond all hours of day and night. Have tried more than a dozen diffrent lures. Rattles, floaters, sinckers, divers, r Tiny minos. Quote
banker Posted June 30, 2013 Author Posted June 30, 2013 Live and rubber worms, and spinners in a lot of colors shapes and sizes Quote
Hyrule Bass Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Thank you for all the tips. No grass away from the Bank just alot of algie the water ix always pretty clear. Fairly shollow accept right inthe middle. sounds like a pond i fished yesterday. shallow, clear water, and a lot of algae. makes it tough to fish with anything other than weightless plastics and frogs. i pulled out between 15-20 bass in an hour and a half. i was using weightless rage tail space monkeys and rage tail lizards... Try a small weightless hook and small 4-5" finesse worm wacky rigged right in the center. Throw it 5-6 feet in front of the fish and let it sink to the bottom, then a little micro twitch to get the bait to move. He should come and inspect it, keep doing a very slight little twitch every few seconds until he picks it up. Spinning rod and 6# fluoro. Also if they are wide open banks (no tree cover behind you) wear light clothing, dark clothing and standing right on the bank is not good. Dark clothing will cast a shadow and let the fish see you long before you see them. Wear light colored shorts/pants and a white or light gray shirt. Quote
Smallmouth Hunter Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 In your situation I would suggest mimicking a injured bait fish. I would buy a jointed swimbait from academy (h20 brand). They sink VERY slowly, around 2 inches a second, so use them as a topwater lure and twitch them, it zig-zag on the surface. Oh, and they are only about $3-$4, and it looks very realistic. Quote
Kevin22 Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Try this, like I said.. on 6# fluoro. You will catch those shy fish a lot of the time. It just looks so natural in the water that they have to pick it up. Quote
