Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted June 22, 2013 Super User Posted June 22, 2013 I'm having a hard time telling different sunfish species apart. A lot of them seem really similar. Can I get an ID on this one? I know its not the best pic. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 22, 2013 Global Moderator Posted June 22, 2013 Really hard to tell without a close up of the fish and with a lot of it covered up. I'd say it's either a redbreast or pumpkinseed. Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted June 22, 2013 Super User Posted June 22, 2013 Pumpkinseed would be my guess. We have a ton of stunted little ones like that in my lake that vary from really dark to the brighter shades of orange/blue. Quote
Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted June 23, 2013 Author Super User Posted June 23, 2013 The lake/spillway is actually located at a fish hatchery and I found a website that lists the fish species. It only lists 3 sunfish. Bluegill, pumpkinseed, and green sunfish so I'm assuming it would be one of these. Being that its a fish hatchery, I would think they know what's in their waters. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted June 23, 2013 Super User Posted June 23, 2013 Looks like a pumpkinseed, from the photos it appears to have blue iridescent streaks near the mouth. Quote
