c17Lat Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 I'm not sure if there are crawfish anywhere here in MD,but I was just reading a bassmasters article that was all about jigs. This article covered everything about jigs but really focused on jigs in terms of and in relation to crawfish. So I want to know do you guys use jigs in water that doesn't have any crawfish? Quote
Super User burleytog Posted March 25, 2007 Super User Posted March 25, 2007 There are waters without crawfish? Quote

Super User T-rig Posted March 25, 2007 Super User Posted March 25, 2007 Even if there are no craws, jigs still will work! Quote

Mattlures Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 people dont give fish enough credit. I dont believe for one second that a bass thinks its eating a crawfish when it bites a jig. However since a jig is similar in size and action the bass thinks it is food. If you doubt me get an aquarium with some bass in it and feed them crawfish. Throw your jig in the tank and see what happens. I have done this before and they eat all the crawfish before they even look at a jig. Throw the jig in first and they will bite it. The only way a bass might actualy think a jig is a crayfish is if it was a fast reaction bite. All this means is, even if there are no crawfish a bass will still eat a jig. For those that think a jig is a crawfish, whats a spinnerbait? That must be a crawfish that has a shad by the tail Quote
mike bat Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 i would throw a jig in any waters i fish .... in fact in most cases thats the first thing ill throw ... Quote

Ya there are bass in our waters not in big numbers i fish farm ponds and occasionally see them. Im pretty sure they are more abundent in streams and resovoirs with rocks though. Before i knew anything about catch and release me and my dad woudl always look in the belly when we cleaned um i seen crawdads and baby snapping turtles many times. BASS are fericous and will eat anything they can fit in there mouth. I have seen bass eat just born baby ducks off the top of the water . A jig will work no matter where u are!!!! Quote

CJ Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 I lean toward Matt's input.Reagardless of what a bass thinks a jig or any lure is,my main focus is the presentation that relates best to the bass's positioning.Bass seem to love a slow bottom dwelling prey. The bulkiness of the jig and trailer makes for an efficent meal when the bass are postioned on the bottom. With that said,I think a jig will work on any body of water that has bass in it.
