down4ttown Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Caught a ten pound catfish on a white spinnerbait, 10lb Yo-zuri, and a Curado E. Quote
quanjig Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Fish that white spinnerbait up here on the Potomac and you will have lots of cats crush that thing!! Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted June 21, 2013 Super User Posted June 21, 2013 Cats will hit anything a bass or pike will hit. I've caught many while trolling for pike with spinnerbaits, in-line musky bucktail spinners, 8" Believer plugs and the musky sized Johnson Silver Minnow! They are a top of the line predator, especially when they get to be over 6 pounds. Quote
BassAssassin726 Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 I love throwing big Rooster Tails. Love the 1oz ones, them things THUMP. Was crankin one day for fish that were suspending a few feet under the surface and out of nowhere my rod loads up like i caught a freight train. I thought I had the bass of a lifetime. Turns out it was a 10 pound catfish. Man that thing fought so hard. At the time I always thought of Catfish as bottom dwellers. I've since learned otherwise. Caught a small 4 pound cat once when i casted a weightless Senko and as soon as it hit the surface he ate it. Quote
papajoe222 Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Welcome to the board. I, too have had cats hit all types of artificials, even top water. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 22, 2013 Global Moderator Posted June 22, 2013 Catfish will hit any kind of artificial and are very efficient predators, more so than most give them credit for. The love baits with vibrations or strong scents for them to hone in on. Not many days will I go without catching one if I'm fishing a squarebill or chatterbait a lot. I've seen a few of them explode on a buzzbait way better than any bass I've ever caught has. Quote
RAMBLER Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Caught an 8 lb. channel cat on a Strike King bitsy minnow and 4 lb. test line. Now that is worth going fishing for! 1 Quote
