RoachDad Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Sorry but this has been bugging the heck out of me. How do you pronounce 'crappie'? Is it crap-ie or crop-ie? You are from Maryland so as always you are caught in the middle. Southerners consider you a yankee so I am sure that CROPPIE is the way to go. If you were down here in NC and called it a croppie we would all know immediately that you were a yankee. Since we are not as sophisticated we tend to say things they way they are spelled. And yes, on occasion we do enjoy doing things just to tweak the noses of other people. Try perch! 1 Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted June 21, 2013 Super User Posted June 21, 2013 My buddy calls them silver perch.....i had no idea what he was talking about till he showed me a picture of a mess of them his dad caught. Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted June 21, 2013 Super User Posted June 21, 2013 Kids laugh at crap-ee. 1 Quote
Super User Marty Posted June 21, 2013 Super User Posted June 21, 2013 The various dictionaries are not in agreement. Some say CRAP-pie and others say CROP-pie while others say one but give the other as an acceptable alternative. I've always said CRAP-pie. Quote
Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted June 22, 2013 Author Super User Posted June 22, 2013 I actually use both and switch it up between the 2. Personally I think that both of them sound funny. Seems like rather than a right way/wrong way its more of a personal preference/regional dialect. Quote

Mccallister25 Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Down here in the South, we tend to say crap-ee. Iv met a few people that pronounce it crop-ee, but its not many. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted July 20, 2013 Super User Posted July 20, 2013 The crap-pe bite was good today. Quote
Snakehead Whisperer Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 You are from Maryland so as always you are caught in the middle. So true. I actually use both and switch it up between the 2. Personally I think that both of them sound funny. Seems like rather than a right way/wrong way its more of a personal preference/regional dialect. I do this too. If I say the word multiple times in a single conversation, I'll usually pronounce it both ways Some people seem confused by this. 1 Quote
