I was fishing in a tournament this past April and on the last cast of the day I got snagged in a tree after trying to free it I gave up and snapped the line. After about 3 seconds I get smacked in the head by my Texas rig that managed to fly the 30 yards back to the boat slip weight and all. What's the wildest thing that's happened to you on the water.

While night fishing with no moon , dark as all hell in a canoe heard a loud splash and could see something large in the water 30 or so feet in front of me.

It really scared the crap out of me so I grabbed the paddle and started back paddling. I couldn't help my self and had to see what it was.

So I hit the headlamp on my light and it turned out to be a horse that got out of it's stable up the road.

This happened to me yesterday evening while fishing a small local pond. Was casting a 3/8 spinner on my baitcaster from a small clearing surrounded by trees...enough room to cast sidearm. After 10 or so successful casts I brought the rod back to cast again, brought it forward and the spinner nicked a dangling branch, but didn't get hung up and the cast followed through fairly smoothly. My line and lure started to go out and everything seemed fine, but when the spinner pulled the line taught it just continued on..and on..and on. I'm guessing the branch nicked my knot pretty good and caused it to break when it reached full extension. Ultimately I watched my spinnerbait sail halfway across the little pond and land with a solid plunk. I couldn't do anything but smirk and tie something else on.

Went to Gander Mtn. a local outdoor sporting goods store here in NC earlier. Bought my self a nice $200 spinning rod and reel combo and refused the one year warranty and went on my way to a lake near home to try it out. Pitched a senko under a tree, got caught on a small branch in the water, went to jerk and snap my line.... snapped my pole in half. Craziest thing to this day. Just fantastic.

Mines close to the first story. Friend and I were scouting out a golf course (for night fishing) late one night. We got to the water and I saw a weird shape in the water, about 20 ft away. Just assumed it was a goose or something. When we got closer, it decided to say what's up. It was a dude snorkeling for golf balls. We ran into a guy on a golf course, snorkeling, at 2 am. THE ODDS.

When I was 15, dad and I were night fishing for walleye on Pratt Co. Lake. We watched this pickup circling the lake about 20-30 times. It's about 3 miles around so this went on for some time. Dad was a cop, so of course this peaked his interest. No cell phones at the time so we just waited. Next thing we see is a large rolled up carpet being pulled out of the back of the pickup and being tossed into the lake.

My dad didn't even reel up our lines, just hauled tail over there. Truck took off but dad got the tag. We drug the carpet up thinking there had to be a body in there. Dad started laughing and said "son we hit the mother load" found a total of 9 rifles and shotguns all rolled up. We ended up packing them up and headed into town to call the Sheriffs office. Turns out the weapons were not stolen but a mad jealous wife that had been cheated on took revenge on her hubby!

We never went night fishing again after that one lol

I've never shat myself yet, but I might have after that one.

I was fishing a large cove and working some pilings well out in the middle and deer swam within 2 feet of my boat to cross the cove.  I think it was checking to see if my boat license was current. Had some idiot shoot over my head with a 22 about 4 times three years ago. That was fun.

Was this recent? What was the rod brand? Most likely you are still covered by a warranty. Or at least email the maker and ask for a replacement based on manufacturing defect.

I fish pretty much exclusively at night.  Lights in the sky, 3x in 26 yrs.  Needless to say, Im a believer.

If your talking UFO's, I'm with ya.  Never seen anything while fishing but I've seen some strange stuff in the sky a couple times.

All I've seen is lights........but they move like no other lights Ive ever witnessed anywhere else.  Unfathomable speed and manueverability

Same here.  They don't look like airplane of helicopter lights.  Sometimes I try and dismiss them as maybe on some kind of tower/antenna but when I drive by in the daylight there's nothing there that could explain it.

Yea, there's no doubting these.  They'll go from one side of the horizon to the other in a second.  CRAZY speed with direction changes that just aren't possible with the technology we have to date

Right on...I've seen lights like that twice.  The one time I was delivering a pizza and actually pulled off onto the side of the road for a couple minutes to watch them.  Crazy stuff.  The stationary lights I've seen 2 or 3 times but like I said, there's never anything to explain them away when I go back in the daylight.

Not trying to hijack the thread though.  Don't want this to turn into a UFO debate.

Was fishing a St. Johns lake, Lake Dexter, just south of Lake George and had a pod of manatees go absolutely crazy about 30 yards away from the boat.  Everybody thinks manatees are slow and lethargic but they can MOVE and make a huge disturbance in the water if scared or threatened.  I guess we scared them.  My buddies and I thought it was a monster gator and got kinda nervous until the manatees came to say hi.  Didn't have any lettuce for them though.

This happened to me last weekend on lake Okeechobee. The manatee snuck under the boat and started scratching his back on the bottom of the boat.

I hope you still took it back.  I have little doubt that they would still take it back.

Maybe not a month later but the same day?

I was fishing a small lake after the same day I bought a new spinning setup and got hung in a tree.  While trying to get my lure back the the two piece pole i bought came apart.  Luckily I got the lure loose so i could retrieve the second half of my pole from the bottom of this pond.  Second craziest thing was a water mocassin trying to crawl up my leg while fishing one of our lakes here in VB.  That just scared the crap out of me.

I took my dad out on the local river to show him my Ranger. We trolled down a feeder river and turned the corner and saw a canoe on the shore where a young couple were going at it.

Hope this isn't a totally dumb question, but if it is humor me anyway...what is a water moccasin?

It's not crazy per say but really cool. I was fishing one day and out of nowhere one of those old school bi planes came speeding overhead. Guy started doing barrel rolls and corkscrews, all sort of awesome stuff. Went on for like a half hour. Needless to say, I wasnt really paying attention to fishing for that half hour.
