One Trick Pony Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 Purchased four packs of the Hud-Bugs. They look awesome and I hope they work for smallmouth. Now that I have the Bugs, can anyone tell me how best to fish them. I wanted to use them for smallmouth in and around the cabbage weeds. Are they relatively weedless if I hook them using a Gamakatsu weeless hook. Was hoping to drag them around the weed edges and even through the weeds where the big smallies spend the day. Appreciate any tips and advice. Thank you! Quote
gobig Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 The most productive way I have fished them, is the way they were intended. With the weight system they come with. The bait will always right itself. Nose hook the bait through the wire loop. I use a regular finesse/dropshot hook in open water and a finesse/dropshot hook with a weed guard around the weeds. IMO this bait is at its best stitched around rocks. Quote
One Trick Pony Posted June 27, 2010 Author Posted June 27, 2010 gobig - nDo you find them to be fairly snag resistant on the rocks? Quote
One Trick Pony Posted June 28, 2010 Author Posted June 28, 2010 fourbizz - do you use the football jig even in weeds like cabbage? Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted June 28, 2010 Super User Posted June 28, 2010 No, I only fish the huddlebug in rocks. Quote
brushhoggin Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 take the weight system out of one and try it on a shakey head Quote
