Jonnehboi Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 I fish In a sequence of man made ponds that flow into one another and it is very hard to find structure that is fish able there is lots of algae but it is in rielly shallow waterto shallow for fish there is lots of weeds but they are too deep to see and find pockets are there any tips Quote
Super User J Francho Posted June 20, 2013 Super User Posted June 20, 2013 So, fan cast, and keep moving until you run into a few. Pond fishing is all about covering ground. Quote
Jonnehboi Posted June 20, 2013 Author Posted June 20, 2013 Ok thanks I've tried fan casting with lures but there is lots of weeds but ill figure something out Quote
BassAssassin726 Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 All those big features you find in big lakes exist in ponds, just on a smaller scale. If theres literally no structure you can see the fish gotta have something to hang on to. That spot on the bank where it dents in for example may just look like a small indentation on the bank, but it forms tiny points on either side. They probably hold some fish too. Although I dont have much experience fishing weed clogged ponds and lakes. And like Franco said, COVER GROUND! Just keep moving every 15-20 minutes until you get bit. Quote

I would add that you need to take a mental note of where your bait is when you do get a bite, then hit that spot again. If you consistantly get bit there, try to determine what could be there that is holding fish. The water surface gives away clues as to what is going on underneath, so keep an eye out for what it does when the wind blows. Quote
hooah212002 Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Ok thanks I've tried fan casting with lures but there is lots of weeds but ill figure something out Buzzbait for top, then run a spinnerbait at multiple depths, then try a fluke at multiple depths/cadences, then a jig/texas rig/carolina rig/senko. All of these WILL catch fish, are weedless and cover all columns of water. Fan cast each bait until you feel as though you've covered your little section, then switch. Conversely, if you feel like going for a walk, rig up one per rod and walk around the lake hitting one part of the water column, then switch and take another walk. Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted June 21, 2013 Super User Posted June 21, 2013 I'd bring a weightless (or maybe 1/8 oz if there is some open water)T-rigged plastic (I'm a fan of the speed worm) and a smallish hollow frog, and as mentioned above, keep moving and covering water. I fish a few ponds like that, and find that fish relate to the same areas. I've caught the same bass on the same lure 3 times in one week several times (I knick-named him dummy). I've also found that bass will use shallow flats at times as cover, (particularly in dirty water) and just hang out in small depressions waiting to ambush a small spinnerbait or buzzbait). In clear shallow water I'm all about fishing in and around grass. Lastly try to hit these ponds on high percentage times, often you can get fish to show themselves, even if they won't commit, making the following outings more productive. Oh, and if the weeds will allow, just ignore all the stuff above and break out the popper... Quote
Hyrule Bass Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 i would throw frogs and weightless t-rigged plastics. alot of times, you fill find bass hanging out under that shallow algae for shade Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted June 21, 2013 Super User Posted June 21, 2013 I would fish the areas where the water flows from one pond to the next. Quote
zwhiten12 Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Go weightless Texas rigged and look for any change in the boot makeup, even the slightest change can hold fish! Good luck!!! Quote
