coldsud Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 I just recently bought a 7'7" GSX Micro guide rod for my Abu Garcia Revo SX. I have had it for about three weeks and it's not a bad rod as far as i can tell. It's a really sensitive rod and has a decent feel to it. Cons: doesn't have a cork handle, it's also to long for me I think. I was hoping to get some more input if anyone has some it would be great. Thanks Quote
Diggy Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 If unhappy with it based on length, do they have any shorter lengths? Most people will use a 6ft6 to 7ft3 for general fising 6ft6 to 7ft1 mainly the most generic, general all around advice is 7ft mh Quote
5dollarsplash Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 7'6" Is a lot of rod for general purpose. For pitching and flipping (generally longer rods) I use a 7'3". That said, what makes it too long? Is it something you can adjust to? If you use this setup for things like cranking, or top water treble hook baits, then I could see it being a hinderance. But for most other techniques, provided you can adjust, the extra length will be an asset. 1 Quote
Brackish Angler 228 Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 I use 7'6" rods for flats fishing for specs and reds, but that's clear open water and I'm sight fishing so I need the casting distance. Honestly I can't imagine using a rod that long for bass fishing off banks or near cover. If I'm not mistaken, I think most long (over 7'3") bass rods are to give you leverage when setting the hook in really deep water. I would suggest getting a 6'10" to 7'1" rod. Those are my favorite freshwater rod lengths. Quote
