I thought I was going to get the speed spool but now i realize I can get the tournament speed spool for 120 and then the tournament pro speed spool for 148. Which one should I get ? It's going to be my first and I want good quality gear to have. Any help would be appreciated.

If you're talking baitcasters the Lew's® Tournament SS TS1-H in my opinion can't be beat for the price I absolutely love mine, it is hands down one of the best baitcasters I've used. Great casting, great drag system, smooth as silk reeling.. all around a superb reel in my opinion. Mine was 149 $ so looks like you're getting a good deal, depends on what your lookin for from what i see the tour pro is. 7.1:1 has an extra bearing and weoghs less is all i see on paper.... so you can't go wrong with either if your looking for the 7.1:1 ratios..

I can only speak for mine ( opted for the 6.4:1 ) version of the tour speed spool.. best money I've spent thus far on a baitcaster.... good luck with your choice.. be sure and ler us know what ya get.

I own both models and personally the difference is nothing more then weight and cosmetics. What rod do you plan on using with it?

I don't know yet on rod. I'm looking possibly at the 13 black *** or a kvd tour. I know I want a mh though. Which is better gear ratio to get as its my first baitcaster ?

For An all around reel ratio I would get a 6:4:1 which Lew's has in almost all of their reels for a all around rod I would get the St Croix mojo bass in 7" MH fast action it's the spinnerbaits rod in the line up but will work for plastics jigs spinnerbaits and really anything you throw at it that rod is a workhorse. Best of all the rod is a hundred bucks.

I agree I'd go with the 6.4:1 not much of a difference in .6 per turn, guess on a super long cast you may feel the difference but as far as burning a spinner bait... not much difference in my opinion.

I picked up a Team Lews on eBay recently for $140...if you're into ebay it may be worth a look.

That's where I found them prices. I might have to look for them.

I have both and like the pro more the only real notable difference is the weight.

*** Blacks are the hot ticket right now.  Haven't used mine yet.  I am thrilled with my Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth rod.  Another great option is to buy used.  Over the winter I picked up 2 custom rods built on Batson blanks.  One of them cost less than the price of just the bare blank.  :teeth3:  Gotta love it.

My only Lews is a Tournament Pro.  My 10 year old grandson thinks it is his now.  :cry3:

A Team Lews cant be beat for around $150, and I've seen several sold in that price range. I like my TPs, but I'd definately go with the Team Gold when they're going in that range.

I have a speed spool and a tournament speed spool.. I picked up the tournament speed spool for 92 bucks brand new on the famous auction site and paired it with a *** medium fast and love th set up!

Some one correct me if I'm wrong but the only difference between the tournament and tournament pro is the carbon fiber handle which just adds less weight??? It's not that big of weight difference I do know that!

Different gears the tournament has brass gears and the pro has duralumin gears which saves most of the weight.

Which one would be easier to learn as a somewhat beginner ? First reel of my own. I know the tournament pro ss and the tournament ss have different breaking systems
