Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted June 20, 2013 Super User Posted June 20, 2013 What do you guys think about? Just picked it up on clearance for 180.... used it today and love the feel. Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted June 20, 2013 Super User Posted June 20, 2013 I also have a GL2 jig and worm. Mine is the 803C. I like it just fine. Have a Curado 200G7 on it. Great combo for me. Hootie Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted June 20, 2013 Super User Posted June 20, 2013 I have two. A MH and H. Both 7'1". I bought them before I really knew what Gloomis was. Both of mine are extremely sensitive and great rods. I have a Chronarch and Curado on them. One is my main jig rod for 1/2 oz rigs and the other I've deemed the Rage Rig. Both are way underpowered for what the are rated. The MH feels like a semi stuff M and the H feels like a true MH. The max weight is 3/4 oz. I feel like it has too much bounce in the tip. The cork and reel seat feel nice too. I have wild cards for both too. That's one of the best things about them. That said, both feel like baseball bats now that I've got a couple of St. Croix Avids that weight 4 ozs. They around around 6.5-7 oz each. I really don't think they are worth 200 dollars. The Avid feels 10 times better to me for around 180. Warranty's not as good as the loomis, but it feels like a better rig. Other than the weight I have no complaints. Quote
Jigs 4 Pigs Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 I have the 853, bought it for jigs. It's alright but a little heavy, I agree that it's not worth $200. Also have 852 NRX for lighter rigs... amazing rod. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted June 20, 2013 Super User Posted June 20, 2013 I have a JWR803 and I love the thing. Caught many a big jig bass on it. Mine is currently paired with a Daiwa TD-X103HSDL pitching reel spooled with 50# Kanzen. Quote
ULG Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 liked the gl2 for worming n jigging, the 7h gl2 crankbait is a beast of crankin rod! felt real good on the 6 and 6xd. got better feel, less weight and better balance out my falcon caras. if u havent tried them, take a minute to play with one, light and sensitive! my favorite rods and have a very similiar pricepoint than the loomis. i havent had a single problem with the warranty of my falcons at all and have been very pleased with thier customer service. but if your gonna spend 200-220, try the cara line. now if u wanna step up n spend another 60-100 bucks, try the imx for sure! even better rod but ur gonna pay for it! lol but hope htis helps you out is any. my experience says gl2 is good rod but for the cost, i really feel like thier are some better rods out there for the cost and maybe some cheaper that are just as great. ive said it before but your gonna get what u pay for in the area, but when it comes to spending the money we are now days on fishing toys. i think it doesnt matter what the price tag says as long as feels good to you. but when your spending 200+ on a rod, its all about preference also, just a matter of what YOU like 1 Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted June 21, 2013 Super User Posted June 21, 2013 It isn't a bad rod but for 430-$40 dollars more you could have got a GL3 which is head and shoulder above the GL2. I was going to get one after the redesign but looking at a price tag of $200 with standard aluminum oxide guides and a blank that is heavier than just about every other rod in its price range made me pass. The thing of it is though if you like itand it helps you fish then it is more than worth it and one thing I can say is the handle has to be one of the most comfortable handles I put my hands on and that alone would make it worth it if you value comfort along with performance. 2 Quote

Super User J Francho Posted June 21, 2013 Super User Posted June 21, 2013 Do they still make GL3 anymore? Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted June 21, 2013 Super User Posted June 21, 2013 Do they still make GL3 anymore? I got mine at BPS about 3 months ago and TW still has them in stock. However, I don't know if they are still being made, or if these are just leftovers. I'm thinking about ordering another one. TW seems to be limited to just a couple, but American Legacy has the whole lineup. Hootie Quote
Stratos92 Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 I was in a local shop about 2 weeks ago and bought a GL2 855 and they had a good selection of the GL3's. Like Hootie said, they could be leftovers though. Quote
ULG Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 When you guys talk bout the gl2, are u refering to the older blue colored blank cz those werent impressive at all. But the new split grip wine colored blank rods are real nice!!! A way better upgrade than th blue blank gl2. Js makin sure im unstanding exactly wat rod u guys are talkin bout is all bcz from experience th newer gl2 is night n day from th other. But i flet like th imx was a step up but havent had any experience with gl3, i saw them on some sites in clearance and assumed that they d/c'd tht line. Quote
Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted June 22, 2013 Author Super User Posted June 22, 2013 Yea its the new model not the blue g2 ... the wine colored split grip... and I absolutely love it Quote
motodmast Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 you can get a lot nice rod for the money, my 13 omens weight less, balance WAY better, and are a tad more senstiive then the gl2 rods i had then sold. Quote
ULG Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 For the money, im gonna get a cara for sure! Lighter and just feel better to me, its bout all i throw besides the exception of some cumaras n a few loomis rods but caras js fit me. Thanks for input tho guys, really like this forum!!!! Quote
