non-pro-archer Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Has anyone bought an outboard without a title and tried to go get a title for it? 1 Quote

OP, i think if you bought the motor in a state that doesn't require a title you need a bill of sale showing where you bought it and fill out a title application for it. The DOR website is kind of vague on what to do other than they tell you to call the license office. Quote
Koofy Smacker Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Hm. Thats gotta be a PITA to deal with any boat bought outside of the state. I dont even think a title was provided with my outboard Quote

They need to keep track of what you own so you can pay the tax on it every year. Quote

And like Team_Daughtery said, we have to pay Personal Property Tax on that kind of stuff every year. It's kind of a rip off... Quote

Heck, you don't even need to register your trailer in TN. But, you better be able to provide proof of insurance for the trailer. I found that out three years ago when I lost my trailer plate somewhere in PA on the route from MA to TN, for the Road Trip. When I got to TN, I tried to get a plate bracket at a boat dealer so I could put a temporary plate on my trailer. That's where I was told you didn't need a plate in TN. Felt like I was in a time warp. Quote
kjfishman Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 You need to get a form from the license bureau and take that and your bill of sale to the local police or state police and they sign off it wasn't stolen. Quote
Doomonyou1999 Posted July 27, 2024 Posted July 27, 2024 in Missouri you need a title, everyone keeps talking about their own states but in MISSOURI you need a title. (for any gas motor I think) If you do not have one you need a Bill of Sale from person you bought from and have to have Missouri Highway Patrol (which are now part of Water Patrol) to run a check on it for a stolen motor unless the motor was once titled in you name in which case i believe you can file a lost title with the DMV. If a seller will not give you a BofS then it is most likely not theirs to sell. Quote
