Gsickels3 Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Hello everyone, I have bought various soft plastics such as power worms, various creatures, and flukes. What ways do you guys fish soft plastics. I have heard carolina and texas rigs, is there other ways to fish them? Thanks! Quote
Comfortably Numb Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Most popular methods you can research are Texas rig Carolina rig Shakeyhead Wacky rig Dropshop rig Jika rig Rage rig mojo rig splitshot rig Quote
florida_bass_assassin Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 I almost always fish them texas rigged with no weight. i find it easier to control them that way and any fish will hit them. Senkos and flukes are my two preferences, and i find that most of my bites come from a sporadic jigging pattern with short pauses. With senkos the best action comes from letting it sink to the bottom right off of the cast, and jigging it a few times, with a short pause, and repeat. Flukes you can fish in every part of the water column depending on where the fish are biting and the depth of the water. After using this method a few times you will start to become comfortable with the movement of your baits and you will start catching more fish. Quote
Gsickels3 Posted June 20, 2013 Author Posted June 20, 2013 Thanks for the help! I will research those rigs and try Texas rigging them without a weight tomorrow. Do you Texas Rig flukes also? Quote
Super User WRB Posted June 20, 2013 Super User Posted June 20, 2013 Every soft plastic you mentioned can be fished on a jig as a trailer. Shaky head jig Ball head jig Darter head jig Arkie head jig Flukes and creature both work very well on a keel weighted EWG hook. Drop shot both worms and Senkos. Plus the standard; Texas rig Florida rig Carolina rig Those should keep you busy for awhile. Tom Quote

Yes I do the same thing with flukes, but they are usually a faster action. Instead of letting them sink, I give them harder jerks, but still use the random jerking sets, and the pauses. What does the area that you are fishing in look like? Quote
Gsickels3 Posted June 20, 2013 Author Posted June 20, 2013 I fish in Iowa. I mostly fish farm ponds. The one I most frequently fish is about 4 acres with 2 small coves. This is a stocked pond that has been stocked for over 10 years. There is not a lot of cover in this pond. There are small Oak and Evergreen trees around the pond. Quote
florida_bass_assassin Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 okay if the water is pretty clear then use natural colors like watermelon red, watermelon seed, and pumpkin. If its not as clear use dark colors like junebug and black. Also use the fan method, which is cast on both sides of you adjacent to the shoreline, and then cast increasingly outwards and once you get straight out start to cast inwards on the other side. Like a how a fan would move back and forth. Quote
