Cottonwood Trees Cloggin My Reel

Anyone else having an issue with Cottonwood trees and their reels. The past couple of days at the pond, cotton has been falling from the trees and floats on top of the water. When I retrieve my lures the cotton gets all over my line and is a pain in the butt to get off. It also gets all wrapped up in my reel and guides. I got a pretty wicked birdsnest b/c the line jammed in a guide. Since it is wet it's a pain to take off the line.

 

Anyone ever had this problem?

Yup. Had a post about it a month ago. Didn't really get any great answers except change spots.

Bummer... Its only about a 6 acre pond, can't really escape it. The other day it looked like it was snowing in June from all that crap.

I to have it, its one of the reasons I won't buy those tiny micro guides. It'll eventually wash up to shore or sink or whatever it does!

Part of fishing, same every year. Just gotta address it, I usually go to a crawler on a carolina rigg and slooooowwww iittt dooowwwwnnn,,,,,,,, I can't make any more cast between cleeaning the stuff off but it gives me more time between cleaning it,,,,,,, it will be all gone soon ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,we hope!

If you use a slicker line like copoly, mono, or flouro might help cut through it. The texture of braid might grab it easier.

Gotta be careful with a micro guide rod, I think you break a guide if the line gets loaded up enough. Not to mention it will drive you insane.

I switch to mono when i encounter it.

Same problem at one of the lakes I fish also and it really is a pain with braid. Slicker line or change spots I'm guessing.
