CarolinaBoy4Life Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Anyone here have any experience with these soft body swimbaits? Seen a video on Youtube of a guy fishing them over grass and in shallow and was killing them. Was throwing them on a twistlock weighted hook. Was thinking about buying all three sizes. Anyone have any input or tip's on rigging these? Thank's guys! Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted June 19, 2013 Super User Posted June 19, 2013 Great baits, rig them just like the video instructed you. You have to be creative on the smallest size. Fish those on a size one hook, and reel them slowly. The tails are so small that if you over power them they will rollover. The bigger two sizes are not hard to fish at all. Again, just follow the rigging instructions of the video. Have fun. 2 Quote
BrettD Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 My #1 bait is a gambler big EZ. I only use the big ez's I rig them with davis baits 1/4oz 6/0 hooks with owner screw locks. Owner beast swimbait hooks are also good hooks for them. The slower you can swim them and keep the tail going the better. You can also yo-yo them off the bottom like a jig. Quote
CarolinaBoy4Life Posted June 19, 2013 Author Posted June 19, 2013 About how deep do these bait's run on a weight hook? Quote
BrettD Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Depends on how fast your reel them, rod angle, and how far you let it sink before you start reeling. I've caught fish skimming them on the surface and in 20' of water working them on the bottom. Quote
CarolinaBoy4Life Posted June 19, 2013 Author Posted June 19, 2013 What kinda setup do you throw these on? Ratio and Action and power? Quote
BrettD Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 I use a 6.4 revo gen 3 stx with a falcon bucoo 7'3" heavy fast falcons are little under powered so its more like a stout MH. My dad uses a 7:1 lews tp with a powell endurance 764 which is a 7'6" fast I think its a heavy action. A big ez is pretty heavy by itself then when you had a big hook with a 1/4oz weight it probably weighs close to 5/8 or 3/4oz all together. We both use 40# braid with no leader. Quote
CarolinaBoy4Life Posted June 19, 2013 Author Posted June 19, 2013 Thank's for the info, The reason I asked was cause I was gonna get a new rod for jig's, flipping, pitching and swimbait's and was looking at a 7'6 BPS Carbonlite Heavy action with a PQ reel and wasnt sure if the heavy would be a little much for this setup since I'm new to jig's and swimbaits Quote
mikeybalzz Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 i like them on twist locks for shallow grass - you core some baits but they swim better in my opinion. i use them on a rigs down here in FL as well - prefer the ez swimmer doing that for the most part. sort of enjoying fishing them a little weird too with the new duz-it (a bladed swimbait hook). for tinged water or places to thick to toss a spinnerbait it's a nice alternative and the fish haven't seen that kinda deal that thick. good luck man! 1 Quote
CarolinaBoy4Life Posted June 20, 2013 Author Posted June 20, 2013 Actually it was your video's I was watching Mikey. I been checking em all out and seen you throwing it. Seen how you rigged it on a twistlock hook too. Your video's are killer man. Watch em everyday after work haha. Quote
