grizzgreen18 Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Im entering a catfishing tournament this weekend with some big money on the line and while i am pretty confident in my knot tying abilities and have had only a few slip on me since ive learned how to properly tie one. i was thinking of putting superglue on my knots to help strthen them so if by chance i due hook into a monster i have less to worry about.so my question is will the scent of superglue make the catfish steer clear of my bait since they are scent hunters? You're fishing heavy line so just make sure your knot is cinched good with a good pull to test it and you'll be good to go. I'd be worried about the glue possibly causing a chemical burn or something to that effect with my line and weakening it. 1 Quote

Seldom have I seen a mate on a charter not tighten a knot using this method, either pliers or a fixed object to put the hook around. Quote

heyitskirby Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Trying to think of this structurally... I'm not sure that superglue would really do much other than bind the outside of the knot. An epoxy or something that can work its' way into the knot might help, but I doubt it as a knot would break outward, thus blowing a glue or epoxy out. You would need something with tensile strength, which the line would have more of than any product you could throw at it. Quote
