Bassin30721 Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 The last 5 times I've been fishing I have only caught one fish. What are some things that I could do to get out of this slump? Quote
basshole8190 Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Fish early or late when bass are most active. cover a lot of water. Fish your confidence baits. and most importantly stay positive. Quote
2Burd4Dawg4 Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 I was in a huge slump the past two weeks and finally broke it. I just took a break for a day or two and gave my mind a rest, sometimes that is best. But, after a day off keep fishing your luck is bound to turn. Keep on Keepin on and fish what you have confidence in. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 19, 2013 Global Moderator Posted June 19, 2013 Sometimes if I get in a slump I'll grab my ultralight and go catch whatever bites a little 2" grub. Sometimes I think we over complicate things and going out and just catching some fish will help get your confidence back. 2 Quote
Downeaster2010 Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Slump in my area, is one that starts every year after the bass spawn out. They go deep for a few weeks to recouperate, and then they will start to hit again. I'm in that stage now in Maine. Some lakes the fish come out of the spawn earlier than others. When it is happening you can't even see a fish. I will just save my money and wait for them to come back to reality. Quote
CDMeyer Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Well the biggest part of fishing for me I truly believe isn't the weather or the lake, or spot, it is all MENTAL. It seems like when I go out confident, I catch fish, and if I do not have confidence I second guess my self all day and barely catch anything. This may not seem like much but If you go back to what is your personal strong point and just fish that technique, I grantee you will be bringing 'em in. So don't worry about spots, weather, baits, etc..... Just go to your best technique that has proven itself before and go out knowing you will catch fish and watch what happens (I know it is hard to be confident when your in a slump) but the only way to get out of that slump is to catch fish, and you catch fish by being CONFIDENT! Super User bigbill Posted June 20, 2013 Super User Posted June 20, 2013 I like the slow times to regroup and practice my presentations to fine tune them better. The fish will interrupt me when I have it right Go back to basics like a split shot rigged black worm. I fish the same places over and over the fish actually learn our lures. It's time for a change up pitch like a baseball pitcher does. Throw something different. Change up your presentation. I wash my hands using big orange before I go fishing. Plus I use scents too. If I didn't the fish would smell our body scents. Never give up stay trying. Using my old combo c LECTOR the average Colors it pics is red, Brown or green on certain days. One color will work but on someday s all the colors work too. On other days. It changes all the time. The fish can't see all the colors all the time. Quote Bill dance. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted June 20, 2013 Super User Posted June 20, 2013 I just got myself out of a three week slump. I switched lakes. Quote
Bob_S Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 You are certainly not alone... I honestly agree with CDMeyer that it all comes down to confidence; sometimes we set our expectations too high or we're not paying attention to the small details that do make a difference...it's not a jinx or anything like that...it's something you do that is different. Just keep working at it until you start connecting, look at what the other guy is doing different ...you know you can do as well as anybody else so just relax, go back to the stuff you've had success with before; and be confident that you will get back on track. Super User bigbill Posted September 15, 2013 Super User Posted September 15, 2013 I throw a ritual of baits and colors till I get action. I start off with a topwater lure first. Then it's the crankbaits next. Then I go with a spinner bait and inline spinners next. Then I breakout the Carolina rig with senkos and bushogs next(go deep). My newly lure added to my list are jigs. Now if no action happens yet I go back to my crankbaits and try the brighter colors and vary my presentations. I've seen nothing work till I put on a firetiger colored crank. Another time I switched from a YUM Shad scent to a baitmate garlic scent and the bite started. It's like my lure is an amusement ride and every bass wants a turn when we get it right. Quote
CayMar Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 I busted a slump today. I started with a top water frog , then flipping jig, then a swim jig, then a pit boss t-rigged. I got nothing. I missed a fish on the frog but misses don't count and it eventually got to hot for any topwater action. I was stumped staring in my tackle bag wondering what to do next. I decided to tie on a purple ribbon tail worm. Tail being grey. I dipped the tail in spike it so it was bright yellow and covered with scent. I cast it out and boom, a little dink hit it immediately. My confidence was back. A couple casts later I threw it out over a log and drug it back to me, as soon as it came over the log boom a 2-3 pounder smashed it. I don't know if it was confidence in worms, switching from natural colors to bright, or the spike it, but the slump was busted. Oh yea my slump was getting skunked the last 5-6 times I went bassin.
