How much are you looking to spend on it? You could get a pretty nice combo from BPS with their Carbonlite/Pro Qualifier for a very reasonable price. At a minimum I'd be looking for something at least 7' long in a MH/F action with 15lb fluoro on a 7.1:1 ratio reel. I have 3 jig rods, one is the exact specs I just listed only it's a LTB rod with a 200E7. Second is a 7' 3" MH/F LTB with a 200E7 with 50lb power pro. Third is a 7' 6" MH/F LTB with a 200E7 with 17 or 20 pound fluoro, this one is my personal favorite for fishing jigs.

Thanks man. I was actually looking into a pro qualifier. All of my rods have a faster action, as will this jig setup.. And i know this is a bit off topic, but what exactly is a moderate to slow action used for?

Either cranking or punching mats. Others might use moderate actions for other things but for the most part those are the two most common applications that I can think of.

As far as your question, bluebasser pretty much answered your question IMO.

Well, now im between the quantum "code" or going to BPS and picking up a pro qualifier. Anyone have expirience with the quantum reel? Also, since its a jig setup, how important is the faster gear ratio?

Sorry for all the questions.. Im kinda new to this.

I haven't used the code but I would feel comfortable recommending the PQ over it. Most Quantum reels get spotty reviews unless you're at the upper end of their models (Smoke, Exo, etc.). The PQ, however, has a good reputation. I have 2 and I feel that they perform up there with some of my more expensive reels. For 100 bucks (or cheaper if they're on sale) I don't think they can be beat.

As far as gear ratio, I would use either a 6:1 or 7:1 reel. I use 6:1 for all of my applications but I don't think you can go wrong with a 7:1 for bottom contact presentaions, like jigs.

7'-7'6 mh or heavy rod depending on if theres cover rod. just get what you are comfortable with. i prefer longer rods.

7:1 reel will enable to you pitch baits and reel in quicker but it isn't necessary. I used to use 200 shimanos because of the faster gear ratio but switched to 50 size reels for comfort and the amount of pitching i do and haven't noticed a difference. it's so much easier palming smaller reels and pitching. my rods balance out really well with 50 size reels so i was able to make the switch.

15# fluoro will get you by in most situations.
