Mikell Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 My shimano caenan 100 baitcaster has 50lbs braid on it, would that be too much for a Medium action rod, say if its only rated for 8-14 pound line? Ive heard of people saying it could "overpower" the rod, resulting in easier breakage of the rod, if thats true then i can just get new line if it comes down too it. haha any advice would be greatly appreciated! derekxec Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 thats what the drag on your reel is for and you should be fine....i have 65lb power pro on some rods rated 6-12lb 1 Quote
JunkYard814 Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 You'll be fine, just make sure that when you do have your self snagged on an immovable object like a tree or rock, that you don't try to tighten down that drag and haul it in. That's a recipe for disaster on multiple counts. 1 Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted June 19, 2013 Super User Posted June 19, 2013 Conventional wisdom is to set the drag based on the mono diameter equivalent. 50# braid is about 12# mono, setting the drag somewhere near 3 or or 4# should work fine. 1 Quote
