SamCFBC Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 What are some good weedless hooks to wacky rig Senkos so you get the same fall rate and action / wiggle? I have some of the 2/0 Gamakatsu weedless finesse wide gap hooks but they don't have enough weight. The senko drops very slowly and doesn't wiggle much. Should I get the 4/0 version of these? What else has enough weight? Quote
jdw174 Posted June 26, 2010 Posted June 26, 2010 I bought the Owner wacky hooks this year with the plastic "Y" guard on them and haven't lost a single fish on them yet. Likewise the Jackall Flick-It jigheads. Quote

Likewise the Jackall Flick-It jigheads. Those Owner Wacky hooks seems to be a top item too. I went to Gander Mountain yesterday and they was gone! those and the finesse wide gap weedless. They did have those in 1/0 so I bought a pack of wide gap. I was also looking at the VMC's live bait hook that looks similar to the Owner's Wacky hook, has anybody tried those? Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted June 26, 2010 Super User Posted June 26, 2010 I make my own version of a weedless hook using a 4/0 or 5/0 Gamakatsu Octopus hook. That gives me plenty of hook strength to handle big bass in heavy cover, a heavier weight hook, and a weedguard that is durable and replaceable. The guard is made of 7 strand stainless steel leader material, and the attachment is 1/8" electrical heat shrink tubing. The tension is about equal to the stiffness of a brush type weedguard on a jig. Quote

Haha, I was going to to try the weedless after you mention them in my wacky O-ring topic. Well now I know why I couldn't find just the weed guards. Don't I feel............................ Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted June 26, 2010 Super User Posted June 26, 2010 endless, if you prefer a less stiff weedguard, use saltwater leader mono like this: Quote
endless Posted June 26, 2010 Posted June 26, 2010 endless, if you prefer a less stiff weedguard, use saltwater leader mono like this: Cool I will check this out.. Thanks how do you make it weedless? any crimping or just use the shrinking tube? Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted June 26, 2010 Super User Posted June 26, 2010 The long black thingy is the 1/8" heat shrink tubing. There is nothing to crimp. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted June 27, 2010 Super User Posted June 27, 2010 I use nothing but the hooks with the weedless guard on them for the wacky rigged 1/8oz carolina rigs. Quote
