Super User bigbill Posted June 24, 2010 Super User Posted June 24, 2010 I have a few lures i have never caught anything with. Maybe its me with not working it right or were i'm fishing. Most of my lures do work one time or another but these two just don't work. One is a Berkley Frenzy crank i have no faith in these. The second one everyone else catches fish but i don't. Its the jitter bug???? I cast it out and reel it slow and nothing happens. The third is the rapala DT series lures. I know its not the lures but maybe its the presentation or time i'm using it. Any thoughts??? BigBill BTW; It could be me too because i'm throwing what i know works most of the time. Quote
NateFollmer Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 You want to learn how to use these lures, ONLY take those three out and nothing else. I can't believe the jitterbug or the DT lures aren't working for you. They are great producers for me. I have never used the berkley frenzy lures, but I just saw them on G3 sportsman the otherday (they were cranking for river brown trout). Try a stop and go retrieve with the jitterbug. Use the DT lures around grass lines, they are my highest producers when cranking around grass. Quote
phoneman Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Jitterbug is a great nighttime bait Rapala DT - I throw it during windy days. One time I pulled out 11 bass in less then an hour with a DT4. Quote

Yeah, I've got to imagine finding the right depth where the fish are & the DT series will produce, big time for you Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted June 24, 2010 Super User Posted June 24, 2010 You're just probably not using them enough or else using them at the wrong time. Those are great baits. Quote
Blue Streak Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 I think you have answered your own question. You are sticking with your favorite too long and not giving these a chance. Quote
B A S S E R Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 I have the same problem as you. I fish a weightless t-rig 90% of the time because its my biggest producer. I have never caught a bass on a crank bait period. I also fish from shore 99% of the time... Quote
flipinstick88 Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Man, I love the Rapala DTs. Make sure you are using the right bait for the depth you are fishing. For example I'll throw a DT6 if I'm fishing 4'-5' of water. You always want your bait to be digging the bottom. Also try varying your retrieve. Hope this helps. Quote

Hope this helps. not always. my craw pattern'd cranks yes, but my bluegill and shad cranks I prefer to retrieve at what ever level the fish are suspended at. If you are in 20 feet of water, and the fish are suspended at 8-10, you dont want your crank digging into the bottom 10-12 feet below them, at least I dont. Now if the fish are on the bottom, dig the crank hard into the bottom or whatever else is down there Quote

Basically your crank should have some erratic movement to it weather it be from contact with something or from yourself. Quote
