stkbassn Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 I've been wanting the Skeete Reese version of this rod (the famous yellow rod)...there's a guy who makes these custom that I found on Ebay, makes them with micro guides and appears to be the same blank.....looks like a great rod...price is good too. However, does Lamiglas make one now that compares or is the same version of this rod, just updated? I saw the Pro X rod on TW but it's $199...I'll buy a Powell before I spend $200.... Thanks! Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 18, 2013 Super User Posted June 18, 2013 I sold my original to a friend and Alpster built me a new rod with the SR705R blank. The blanks also come in black, which is what I have. The custom build is split grip with spiral guides. He built this rod for me for free, but parts still came in around $200. Quote
21farms Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 lamiglas has said that the BMB-841 S-glass blanks used in the SR705R and XCF705R (same rod just different colors) are no longer made because they cannot source the S-glass anymore. i've read that the E-glass versions of the blank are still very nice. that length/power/taper is very popular for lamiglas and lami does a good job at duplicating the power and taper across their 705R factory rods (including the excel XL-705R) although they use different materials. the pro-X 705R is composite, not purely fiberlgass. btw, i've seen the ones on ebay and they look great...in fact, i would actually prefer them to my SR705R and XCF705R because the factory rods don't have that exposed blank in front of the trigger. stkbassn Posted June 18, 2013 Author Posted June 18, 2013 Thanks for the replies guys, this is helpful. I just want to be sure I'm picking up the correct rod when I decide to do it...hopefully soon. Spent so much lately and owe jb for a reel at the end of the week too I would prefer a longer rod than the 7' version but I think it will work well enough for deep cranks. I just like a longer rod for launching cranks... I wish I had bid on the 7'6 that was on Ebay a while back....that was ideal for me. Quote
21farms Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 at one time, i had the lamiglas SR765R (the 7'6" version of the skeet reese SR705R). i bought it expecting to be able to totally launch lipless cranks and swimbaits but was totally surprised i couldn't cast it any farther than the 7'0" version...i have absolutely no idea why because my powell 765cb was absolutely killer on distance compared to my 7'0" cranking rods. stkbassn Posted June 18, 2013 Author Posted June 18, 2013 Powell is great. I love their rods, period. I may get that 804 Endurance for cranks instead of the Lamiglas...I had the Powell 7'11 Composite deep cranking rod that TW sells exclusively and wish I hadn't sold it. I can get that Endurance a lot cheaper right now though and I think it will do the job well.....should throw some swimbaits too....I just got an 8 foot swimbait rod recently though so I have swimbaits covered! lol.
