Rod Length Help?

Hey guys,

 

I need your opinion ... I'm getting ready to get myself a new baitcast rod, and I'm trying to decide between a 6'6 medium heavy, or a 7' medium heavy. I will use this rod mainly for cranking. Whats yall's opinion on which one I should get?

What type of crankbaits will you use? I like a shorter rod for squarebills for casting accuracy. Deeper divers I would get something longer. I don't think you could go wrong with either as it will mostly come down to personal preference.

It would help if you said what kind of cranking you'll be doing.  You'll either want a specialized rod for a specific baits, or an all around.  For an all around cranking stick, I'd recommend a 7'+ long rod in medium heavy power and moderate action.

I think 7' is always a good all around rod for cranking.

I like to use a 7 foot rod for cranking, specifically the Dobyns 705cb graphite. It is a MH moderate/fast action which isn't floppy like most moderate rods I've tried. This rod can truely take care of most treble hooked lures including rattle traps and jerkbaits. However I use a Dobyns 684cb for topwater, jerkbaits, and shallow cranks. Those are actually the only two baitcasting setups I own. I own 4 spinning setups and prefer spinning for finesse presentations-which I use 90% of the time. Hope this helps!
