being that you are from Kansas I'm guessing you know him personally.  I'm sure he's a great fisherman.  I'm not exactly a beginner myself.    Didn't try to ruin a "fun" thread either.. the original poster seems to be the only one not getting all riled up here.  The point of my original post was to assure him that was not a record fish and to not worry about it but some of you seem to get more upset when someone makes fun of your bass than you would your wives or children.. geeesh. insecure much??  I'm fun to fish with by the way and act nothing like the "know it all" your accusing me of being.  I'm not barking up anyone's tree ya'll are barking up my tree. I made a simple post unrelated to any of you except the original poster(whom I might add did not get angry like all of you)  and you all got immediately defensive about it.

I not prodding at you for the remarks you made to the op. Rather, it's your attitude in general to the others in this thread. Your tone just kind of sounds like you enjoy putting a finger in other folks eyeballs. I don't like that.

look at everyone on this forums PB. Almost everyone says their personal best is 7-8 lbs and there's a 99% chance that 99% of us are not telling the truth about that, maybe some of us beleive that but didn't weigh the fish or maybe most of our scales are not correct.  Go to some high level bass tournaments all over the country and you will see hundreds of fish get weighed in by some extremely talented bass anglers and the biggest bass in the tournament usually isn't 7 or 8 pounds.  There are several elite series anglers who have never caught an 8lb bass until the began touring the country and going to Texas and Florida.

Bottom line is it is hard to tell the size of a fish by a picture and this robdob guy enjoys getting people riled up for no reason.  I am also guessing he is the one who knows everything about al ltypes of fishing and would probably not be fun to fish with but whatever.  Reminds of the guys on the Jeep forums i frequent who know everythign about off roading but their jeep is still stock and never taken out of a parking lot...

The OP caught a big fish, no doubt and i wouldn't be surprised if it was 7+lbs but we will never know.  It just sucks that one guy had to derail what could have been a fun thread about the one that didn't get away but we don't know how large it was since it was caught a long time ago.

Its not that hard if you take the time to examine the photo. no way to be sure from a photo but you can make an educated guess.  The fish in your avatar is probably 4lbs and from the looks of it you are in the potomac somewhere.    I guess being realistic is something to be ridiculed for so I apologize for ruining your day

You don't like giving people the benefit of the doubt, do you? I will agree with you that there are probably a number of folks here who "fudge" their numbers. However, for the most part, I've found the bulk of the members here to be nothing but honest. 99% of the folks here aren't telling the truth about their personal bests? Come on man, get off your high horse.

There are a number of anglers here that are also probably every bit as good, if not better than some of the elite anglers. You might then ask me, "why aren't they out there doing it with them?" It takes a lot more than a good fishermen to be part of the elite angler circuit. Money for starters. We could get into more of the particulars if you really wanted to.

I know there are guys out there who would do just fine fishing the elite series but they don't have the money to enter a season of opens to attempt to qualify there's no disputing that.   If your fishing the elite series or the FLW tour in your early 20's i garauntee it wasn't talent alone that got you there new bass boats, dozens of 200 dollar rods and reels, and thousands upon thousands in entry fee's and gas money doesn't grow on trees I'm certainly with you on that one.  By the way my horse is pretty short.

Robdog, how big do you think this bass is... It's not mine, my friend got her a few weeks ago...

At least we agree on something. I'm sure your horse is short, I'm sure you're a great dude to fish with. Shoot, I'm sure we'd probably have a blast on the water together. However, your tone in this thread doesn't necessarily exemplify that. Anyhow, I've rambled on enough and I don't want this to go any further than it need to. Tight lines robdob, and I'll see you on the water.

It weighted 6lbs 1oz, how 'bout this one...

not a chance.. but hey if i said 6lbs you would have said "nope its a 4".  peace out I'm done working for the day.

So I guess my point and others is correct, you can't necessarily tell the weight of a fish from a photo...

You hardly ruined anyone's day here but this forum is about comraderie and people generally get along and may rib people for exaggerating their catch but in a light hearted manner.  You on the other hand have taken more at attacks in an effort to cover up your own inadequacies, which is fine, you live your life and i'll live mine.  Your holier than though, know everything attitude is what i, and judging by other posters, have a problem with.  The minute you know "everything" is the minute you stop learning and improving in anything.

And you are wrong on both counts for your assessment of my avatar pic.  I am nowhere near the potomac and the fish on  a certified scale weighed 6lb 1oz..

If you fish long enough in an area that has large fish your chances of catching one is also increased even if it is just luck.  The big girls gotta eat at some point and the more time on the water the more chances you have of making that happen.  My PB is an estimate of weight but i figure she measured a shade under 26" long and was full of eggs so i am guessing i was probably in the vicinity of the correct weight but she flopped out of my kayak before i could get an offical weight.

6lbs would have been a lot more beleivable if you didn't take the photo from the bottom showing how not really that fat the fish is.   but again you said its 6 so it is.  tight lines folks. peace out

If a guy thinks a fish is 6 lbs....who cares? Even if you see the fish and don't agree....who cares? Just say "nice fish" and move on. When you start playing the "expert" or "authority" card you just come across like a punk. Now, there is nothing wrong with a little debate or discussion but this post went a bit beyond that. There is enough negativity in the world.....lets keep it out of fishing.

Just to stir the pot, this is a 6 lb. lunker fish caught in a Potomac Tournament.  Doesn't really matter, just take it as you wish.  post-40254-0-08305700-1371740611_thumb.j

This isn't me by the way.
