I caught this probably about 9 years ago while pike fishing.  Unfortunatly it was before i understood the importance of catch and release.   I never weighed it but it was an honest 24 inches.  I wonder if this could have been a record fish.  The current state record fish is 23.5'' and 8lbs 15oz  Sorry its blurry, its a picture of a picture.

no offense but that fish isn't even 5.5 lbs let alone 8.  a 23.5" fish that weighed 8lbs had to be so full of eggs it was about to burst.

good point, no offense taken.

Not at all. The fish in my avatar was only 21.5 inches and went 7.76 pounds at 17" around. Another fish I caught in January or February was 24" but was only 14" around and went 7.51. A 21" largemouth, in my experience, will average about 5 pounds. At 24" that fish would only have to be 16" around to be in the 9 pound range according to the fish calculator on here, which that fish certainly appears it may be.

To the OP, sorry but you may very well have eaten a state record if your length measurement was correct. It's tough to tell from your picture and not knowing how tall you were in that picture. The size of the fishes head and mouth doesn't scream 9 pounder to me but like I said it's hard to tell with the blurry picture.

blues right agreed X 10 idk where robo got his facts but it could be a record fish for sure not saying it is but ive seen some fish as long as they are around and thats a good fish u can do that bass resource calculator with no girth ( which will give u the average girth for that length and its a good number for sure) congrats on that tank and hope u can match it in the future

thanks for the laughs. Have you folks ever saw a fish weighed on a real scale before?

You certainly go the "hold the fish away from your body so it looks bigger in photo's" thing down but that doesn't mean your fish weigh more.

a 24" fish in a lake full of tilapia in Texas, Cali or in Florida would be a 9lber but certainly not a northern fish.  Not dissing you at all that is a true giant for a northern state bass.   You are in Minnesota and as far as northern waters go your in a hotbed.  That being said there is a photo for all of us to see and if you think that weighs 8lbs then I've got a bridge to sell you.  All you need to do is look at the photos in the back of a bassmaster magazine and you will see what a 10lber looks like compared to what you guys seem to think an 8lber looks like.  I'm not trying to be rude just honest.  When I was younger I used to think I was catching 5's all the time, now that I'm older and more experienced I realize most of them were 3's.

Yes, I've seen plenty of fish weighed on real scales, including my PB of over 10 pounds, 1 over 9, 2 over 8, and several over 7. I weigh most any fish I believe is over 4 pounds and have seen enough fish put on scales in all the tournaments I've fished to usually guess a fish within a couple ounces. Plug the numbers I gave on my avatar fish into the free fish weight calculator on this site, it's almost dead on what it weighed on my scales.

The fish calculator on here comes out to 7.70 pounds and was caught in Kansas this past March, certainly a northern strain largemouth. Put the other 2.5 inches on that fish at the same girth (which isn't even a really fat fish) and it comes up 9.6. I'm not saying that I think it's a 9 pound fish, I don't from what I can see in the picture like I said in my previous post, but to say a 24" fish can't be 9 pounds or would have to be busting at the seams isn't exactly accurate.

what state are you from Bluebasser.... you do have a $15 rapala scale so don't take that as gospel I had a scale that was off by over 2lbs before.

I have an EXTREMELY hard time beleiving any of what you just said if you want us to beleive those fish are all from Kansas.  but hey whatever helps you sleep at night.

Your honestly making yourself look foolish, they ARE from Kansas no doubt about it... Im on this site quite often and always see bluebasser's fish he seems to be a hell of an angler. A guy in NH who is frequently posting on a local NH topic caught a 9 pounder in NH last year, state record is 10 pound 8oz...

You making that post helps YOU sleep at night, I think bluebasser sleeps fine after catching pigs all day...

So what you're saying is you don't believe that a fish that big could have come from a state like Kansas?? You ever been to Kansas? Ever fished in Kansas? My guess is that you have not, so making assumptions about fishing in Kansas is probably not a good idea.

I'm also not claiming it weighs more than it does. It just happened to be the only fish pic on my laptop when I made this account.   You can take a picture of a 5 and make it look like an 8 pretty easily.  The fish in my picture only weights 3 and a half pounds or so.  Catching a 9lber in new hampshire is certainly possible but catching a bunch of them is IMPOSSIBLE.  I've caught several 5+ fish in PA but I'm not trying to tell everyone I've caught 10 8lbers because of it.

"Yes, I've seen plenty of fish weighed on real scales, including my PB of over 10 pounds, 1 over 9, 2 over 8, and several over 7."   say that to most people and then follow it up by "I live in Kansas and all these fish are from Kansas" and a lot of people are going to think your not telling the truth unless you have been fishing 100 times a year for 20 years.

maybe its true who knows.. maybe his scale told him that and it was wrong.. maybe he's the luckiest angler in Kansas... maybe he's the greatest angler ever and he should be fishing tournaments...... maybe its a complete load of BS.... only he knows but i garauntee you make that statement to ten people and 9 of them will be thinking in their heads not a chance.

show me where I said it Couldn't come from Kansas.  The post I was referring to,, if you actually read it,, was about several fish.. not just one.  I'm sure there are multiple 10 lbers in Kansas I know folks who have caught them I was simply saying,,, again if you actually read the posts,, that is is highly unlikely for one person to have caught all those large fish in Kansas unless they go out a hundred times a year lobbing big swimbaits around hoping for one big bit.................. And your guess would be wrong by the way.

All your posts were read, and what I took away from them is that you feel you are the authority on fish scales, fish weight, fishing in kansas, northern strain largemouth, etc....

If you ask 10 people on this site if they beleive bluebasser caught them all in kansas and the weight was correct they would firmly beleive it... You should read the Fishing Report forum every once in a while, you will run into several posts by bluebasser and see his fish...

I live in Kansas like my profile says but I didn't say anything about them ALL being from Kansas, several of them were from Mexico. It was a response in reference to your statement "Have you ever even weighed a fish on a real scale?" I was merely displaying that I have indeed weighed my fair share of real fish on real scales. My scale may be a $15 Rapala scale but they are surprisingly accurate. True, you may have had one be way off before, but length and girth doesn't lie. You could search for a little informal study member Goose52 did on the accuracy of those little Rapala scales were surprisingly accurate. As for the fish in my avatar not coming from Kansas, do a Google image search of La Cygne lake big bass, here's a link to pictures of a 9 pounder caught out there not long ago. It kicks out fish nearing and over 10 pounds every year. I spend lots of time on it every year.

I do fish well over 100 times a year and I've been fishing my entire life (my parents have pictures of me fishing in diapers) and have been fishing tournaments since I was 16. I've caught plenty of big fish throughout my fishing career, I have no reason to lie about the fish I've caught and have plenty of pictures if you'd like further proof feel free to scroll through

a guy name kevin currently occupies that position

I don't beleive he is a real angler, probably a conspiracy...

I honestly couldn't agree more... I think a lot of people oversize fish and my fish is always two pounds bigger when its not on a scale, my profile pic is 5lbs 11oz and when I landed her I was thinking it was 7 lol... But yes Speed Bead's fish is close to 8 but it is a great example...

And the pic of the fish in MN, who knows what it weighed, nobody does, because it didn't touch a scale...

Bottom line is it is hard to tell the size of a fish by a picture and this robdob guy enjoys getting people riled up for no reason.  I am also guessing he is the one who knows everything about al ltypes of fishing and would probably not be fun to fish with but whatever.  Reminds of the guys on the Jeep forums i frequent who know everythign about off roading but their jeep is still stock and never taken out of a parking lot...

The OP caught a big fish, no doubt and i wouldn't be surprised if it was 7+lbs but we will never know.  It just sucks that one guy had to derail what could have been a fun thread about the one that didn't get away but we don't know how large it was since it was caught a long time ago.
