basssnatcher99 Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 There is this new pond that I will be going to it is about 70 yards by 35 yards it has no structure besides a large drop-off were the pond goes from about 4 feet to about 12 feet. It is a stocked pond, it has both largemouth and smallmouth. I need to know what to use and where to use it. Quote
JunkYard814 Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 If you know there's definitely fish in there, have fun, because you'll probably be able to catch them on a variety of baits. I would probably throw either a senko or fluke and just cover the whole pond. There's really no need to throw search baits like cranks and spinnerbaits on a pond that small (unless that's what you like to fish). Ponds with a good bass population are a great way to learn new techniques. Once you catch a few, start experimenting with baits or techniques you don't typically use. You can build confidence and will now have new tools for your arsenal. That's how I learned how to jig fish and gained confidence with jerkbaits. Quote
smr913 Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 I have been having a lot of fun this summer catching them on a 1/4 oz white swim jig with a grub trailer. The pond I fish has a lot of grass so I swim the jig right over the grass and have been catching more on that than anything else in the past. Quote
hooah212002 Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 A fresh pond stocked with bass? You could probably throw a plain hook and catch something, Like junkyard said: use it to experiment. Get to know how all your baits feel and what the different strikes feel like. Quote
