rvadog Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Since I moved from NYC to South Florida two weeks ago I've been skunked completely. No bites even. I'd like to just reel some fish in to see if I even remember how! Where do you guys go to catch fish when you don't care about size? Quote

Size always matters! 1000% agreed I feel like I wasted my time when I catch these little gold fish type bass! Especially when u r using plastics and they tear em apart. Quote
rvadog Posted June 17, 2013 Author Posted June 17, 2013 Where do you live? Miramar. I'm new at the bass fishing thing and had luck with senkos when I lived in NYC but getting killed here in FL. Quote
GLADES Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 The easiest spots are neighborhood lakes and canals if you are a bank fisherman. The Gambler Big EZ swim bait is perfect for the weedy canals. Just cast, crank, and hold on. 1 Quote
Super User Sam Posted June 17, 2013 Super User Posted June 17, 2013 Where do you go for guaranteed fish in Broward County? Captain D's. Just kidding. Actually, I have no idea where anyone can go anytime for guaranteed catches. So I second what Glades says. Give it a try. Also, ask around at tackle shops and look around on the Internet. There have to be guys down your way who catch them like crazy all the time and they may be able to point you in the right direction. Quote
mg4u2nv Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Miramar. I'm new at the bass fishing thing and had luck with senkos when I lived in NYC but getting killed here in FL. Have you tried going west? i live off hiatus in pembroke pines, i head out west to SW ranches sometimes, its pretty good out there. Use google earth and pick out some spots. Thats how i've found all my "honey holes". I try to stay away from the big main canals and concentrate on the finger canals. I'm surprised you haven't had any results with senkos. Thats normally the go to bait for me. Try wacky riggin em also in watermelon seed. Thats pretty much the only color i throw in those haha. Good luck! Matt Quote
Gotfishyfingers? Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Pick yourself up a pack of senko's in black with blue flake 5in. and 1/8 or 1/16 ounce bullet weights, rig them weedless. That should get something to bite, even in a puddle... Quote

Super User SirSnookalot Posted June 18, 2013 Super User Posted June 18, 2013 There's never a guarantee, but the odds are good as their is always something happening in Florida. I'm not catching that many bass this time of year either, but I'm not really totally focused on them. There are some very good bites going on now. Quote

Super User BassinLou Posted June 18, 2013 Super User Posted June 18, 2013 Rvadog, imho, summer time is a bit more challenging to fish in canals. The heat is a big turn off. However, during this time of year is when we receive the highest amount of rainfall causing the water to flow in canals. Fishing around culverts during this time can be productive. Peacock fishing can be productive though. They spawn in the summer if I am not mistaken. Bass, try for them in the morning or late afternoon. Best of luck. I know it can be frustrating wanting to catch a fish and everywhere you try is a ghost town. Quote
CountBassula Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 I'm living in Miramar. well, you could take I75 north a bit to where it turns into Sawgrass Expressway and right before it turns East, there's a canal that runs along it on the west side, guaranteed to catch a fish there. Also, if you don't mind driving up a bit north to Coral Springs, I can show you some spots in my town that always produce. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted June 19, 2013 Super User Posted June 19, 2013 It's true we get a lot of rain now but the spillways are open and the water in the canals around here is very low. Lots of floating grass making the canal fishing pretty tough here, on the other hand the ponds have been giving some decent action. All the freshwater coming out of the spillways into the ocean has affected the ocean bite, except for snook and tarpon at the inlets. Quote
