The model right before the E series were released? Pictures would be cool. Doing some wishing shopping and I'm clueless as to the history of the Chronarchs

Thanks!

That is purdy! Thanks. The 4 I found on ebay were made of gold by what they were charging lol

You might want to check out the B series then, it was before the D. They were a bit heavier but they were very smooth and built like tanks.

Most older shimanos are on ebay. The curado e goes for over a retailed G series.

The Chronarch D is an awesome reel. But yes they are EXPENSIVE.

There was quite a few for sale a while back on TT and they were going for a pretty penny $$$$

But they are awesome reels

Chronarch D is one of shimanos best reels. They are solid workhorses.

My all time favorite reel. Love how the slightest flick of the wrist gets a bait going. A lot of your lighter reels sacrifice that solid feel that some of your heavier reels do. The d is the best of both worlds in my mitts.

Going back even farther, the old SF chronarchs were sick. Kinda heavy, but a joy with rod tip down presentations.

I have one D and 4 SF's. I wouldn't trade them for any of the new ones.

My first "good" reel and first Shimano was a Chronarch 101A. Just upgraded it with Orange Seal bearings, Carbontex drag, and ceramic pawl this week, yet to fish with it but I'm really looking forward to it. I also have a 101B that I fish heavily and it's been great. The only upgrade I've done so far are Lightning 5 spool bearings but I do have a Carbontex drag and ceramic pawl waiting to been installed the next time I break it down. I've never fished with the D series but I know they have to be really good as well just do to all the great feedback online.

I'm not as big a fan of the MG 50 as some, but they have their place as well to be sure. I'm going to pick up some of the E series Chronarch's just as soon as they put them on sale for the upcoming model. I'm kinda partial to the Chronarch line because as I stated before they were my first experience with good tackle and I very much look forward to seeing what the future holds for them. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the Chronarch family of reels, just have to decide what your intended purpose for the reel will be.

i own 3 b series, shiny metalic version, the gold sf, and 2 of the e series. really didnt have a chance to make a comparison of the d and e series except for the 100 dollar difference. but my b and e series are the best!!! supper smooth and super free!!! great reels for sure and they have stood the test of time for sure, i understand that companies just try to keep up with each other but why dont they just keep produing them as long as there is a want for the product??? it happens with everything tho, new does not always constitute as better! but all in all, i feel any chronarch is well worth the dough as long as u can hack it.

I'm curious to know this..Out of the box, a new Chronarch 200E vs any Chronarch before it....which casts further? I thought my Curado E's way outmatched my Curado D's....I don't own any old Chronarchs but they look nice. I can't see paying the same price or more for a Chronarch 100B when I can get a new one, though I know materials are different and they look different....the new ones are sweet in my book...

The Chronarch D will be a hands down winner over the E series, lighter spool. The B series would also win due to having better factory bearings. The B series came with Shimano's ARB bearings while the E series does not. The ARB bearings weren't packed with grease like the ones in the E series are. I'm not sure about the D series but I would think they also had the ARB's.

Don't get me wrong I'm a HUGE fan of the E series of reels from Shimano but a Chronarch B is in another league when it comes to material quality vs the E. The older A models are superior in terms of materials and build quality IMO as well.
